The upcoming series offers a subversive, "Twin Peaks"-style take on the well-known Archie Comics characters, introducing a Riverdale where darkness and weirdness bubble just beneath the wholesome facade. As a new school year begins, the town is reeling from the tragic death of high school golden boy Jason Blossom. Against that setting, all-American teen Archie is determined to pursue a musical career, despite the sudden end of his forbidden relationship with young music teacher Ms. Grundy, meaning he must look elsewhere for a mentor. However, he's also dealing with his fractured friendship with Jughead Jones, while serving as the object of Betty Cooper's crush. Into that complicated scenario arrives Veronica Lodge.
