Marvel Entertainment and Archie Comics have announced that they have partnered to produce a new series of digest-sized collections called "Marvel Comics Digest." This series of small, digest-sized collections will feature Marvel characters and focus on popular Marvel Comics stories. Archie Comics will design, package and distribute the digests, targeting retailers, comic shops and newsstands.

The Marvel digests will be done in the style of Archie's popular digests, which have been a mainstay of newsstands for decades. The first digest will arrive on the stands in June 2017. The digests will ship six times a year, with four arriving in 2017. The first issue of "Marvel Comics Digest" will feature stories starring Spider-Man and the Avengers. Subsequent issues will feature the X-Men, Wolverine, Iron Man, Black Widow, Thor and the Hulk.

Marvel's Senior VP of Sales and Marketing David Gabriel said the partnership was done to advance Marvel's "reach and exposure," and that the new digests will give “our retailer partners, local comic shops and large chain retailers, a new, fun, and easily digestible way to dive into the Marvel Comics Universe and produce life-long fans.”

Archie Comics publisher and CEO Jon Goldwater also spoke about the partnership. “For years, Archie has made the digest format our bread and butter,” Goldwater said. “We are supremely excited to spotlight iconic characters like Spider-Man and the Avengers through this major partnership with Marvel. These books will serve as a great introduction to the Marvel Universe for new readers and a very special, curated selection of stories for existing fans.”
