Veronica Lodge is back as a vivacious vampire in a new solo comic series titled Vampironica: New Blood. Not to be confused with the 2017 series Vampironica: First Blood, this title comes on the heels of her crossover with Archie's furry best friend Jughead in Jughead: The Hunger vs. Vampironica.

Vampironica: New Blood comes from writers Frank Tieri and Micheal Moreci, artist Audrey Mok, colorist Matt Herms and letterer Jack Morelli. In the new five-issue miniseries, Veronica returns to her universe, where she faces a legacy of lies and subterfuge from a lineage of deceptive Lodges. Veronica must contend with the perils and pitfalls of oncoming maturity, with an added undead twist.

Veronica will learn stunning new facts about herself and her lineage that will challenge all the assumptions she's made. “In JvsV #5... we’ll see a major game changing reveal as far as Vampironica goes,” Tieri told io9 . “It really changes everything as far as what she knows about her and her family. How does she deal with this shocking revelation now that she’s back in her own reality? And what other Lodge family secrets has she been kept from? It all comes to a head in our first arc as what she uncovers may actually lead to nothing short of an all out full-fledged vampire war.”

In recent years however, Archie Comics' Norman Rockwell-esque approach to teen hijinks has been re-imagined in a darker light. Titles such as Afterlife with Archie tackle how Riverdale would respond to a zombie invasion, while Jughead: The Hunger and Vampironica envision Jughead and Veronica as a werewolf and vampire respectively.

Vampironica: New Blood #1 goes on sale December 4.
