The production is promoted as the first international comic book to be adapted for Indian audiences. Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater attributed the deal to, "Archie’s lasting and growing presence in India."

Archie comics may focus on small-town American life, but the series is actually surprisingly popular overseas, where it's published in 17 languages across 55 countries. Sharad Devarajan, co-founder and CEO of Graphic India, described the comics as a "source inspiration for numerous Bollywood films over the years."

The collaboration with Graphic India is only the latest effort by Archie Comics to adapt its widely known characters for other mediums. Its most notable current success is The CW drama Riverdale, now in its second season. Archie is also developing a live-action Netflix drama inspired by the comic Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which offers a horror-inspired take on Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

No release date has been announced for Archie in Bollywood, which is in the early stages of development.
