“I loved the idea of writing this romance for Archie," Tamaki said in a statement to CBR. "This book channels all my rom-com geekery. Seriously. What better place for summer romance than Riverdale?”

"When Nick [Spencer] came aboard, we knew we wanted to start things en media res -- with Archie and Sabrina already involved, and that, at some point, we'd tell the story of how it came to be," explained Archie Comics Co-President Alex Segura. "Well, that time is now, and we're excited to augment Nick's great story with another, valuable voice in Mariko Tamaki, in tandem with regular artist Sandy Jarrell -- who is doing his best work ever on this book. I've loved Mariko's work for years and have wanted to work with her. She got a fantastic knack for relatable, real dialogue and creating heartfelt and evocative, grounded stories. A perfect match for Riverdale and its residents. Expect some surprises, some heartbreak and plenty of twists from two of my favorite modern comic book writers... together for the first time!"

"And, to show how committed and excited we are by this new story arc, I' like to announce we're making the first part (#705) of the ARCHIE AND SABRINA story fully returnable for comic shop retailers," he added. "This is the first step of a new set of incentives for retailers tied to new series launches. Beginning in August, in an effort to make sure retailers are comfortable stocking our new titles, all orders on #1 issues placed by FOC will be 100% returnable, with discount incentives on subsequent issues. The content -- as with all Archie series -- is strong, featuring name creators and recognizable characters, so we want to ensure there are plenty of copies on-hand for fans to pick up on release day and beyond."
