Fresh Off the Boat star Randall Park has joined director James Wan's Aquaman film as Dr. Stephen Shin.

Wan announced the news with a photo on his Twitter. "So happy and fortunate to be finally working with this man, [Randall Park], on pickups," he wrote, adding the hashtag #DrShin. Park, who stands in front of a blue screen, appears to be dressed in character.

In the comics, Stephen Shin is a friend of Aquaman's father Tom Curry and even helped young Arthur learn about his powers. However, when Arthur wouldn't reveal the location of Atlantis to him, Shin grew enraged and tried to kill him. Nevertheless, Arthur called on Shin for help when his people were attacked by monsters from the Trench. Shin came to Arthur's aid, but turned on him again when Arthur wouldn't let him keep a monster's body for research purposes.

So far as the film goes, we know Amnesty Bay and the Curry Lighthouse will appear thanks to photos that surfaced last summer. Also known as the Amnesty Bay Lighthouse, the Curry Lighthouse was introduced in 1959’s Adventure Comics #260, which featured the first appearance of Tom Curry, who will be played by Temuera Morrison in the movie. As Aquaman was raised at the lighthouse, it seems likely that some of the scenes filmed there will involve a young Arthur, although the adult version may make his way there as well. It's possible that this will be where Park's Stephen Shin appears.

Aquaman won't be Park's only superhero project to hit theaters this year. He will also appear in Marvel's Ant-Man and the Wasp as Jimmy Woo, who -- in the comics -- is a Chinese-American secret agent that has been an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D and leader of the Agents of Atlas.

Arriving in theaters on December 21, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Temeura Morrison, Dolph Lundgren, Ludi Lin, Michael Beach, Nicole Kidman and Willem Dafoe.
