That certain "something" Aquaman director James Wan teased would arrive today, comes in the form of an extended preview for the Warner Bros. film, packed with more than five minutes of mostly new footage.
The video expands upon sequences fans saw in the trailer released in July at Comic-Con International, opening with the hero's backstory, and setting up the thrust of the film's story: The journey of Jason Momoa's Arthur Curry from an outsider, never truly at home on land or beneath the waves, to the rightful ruler of the undersea kingdom of Atlantis.
The footage leans hard into one of Aquaman's stated influences, the 1984 romantic adventure-comedy Romancing the Stone, as Momoa's Arthur and Amber Heard's Mera cross the desert on sand-, and quip-, filled quest. It also gives fans their first good look at Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in action as Black Manta as he and his men chase Arthur and Mera across rooftops, and through walls. Add to that new CGI monsters and aquatic battles. In short, if the first trailer didn't get you excited for Aquaman, then this video almost certainly will.
Directed by James Wan, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry, and Dolph Lundgren as Nereus. The film opens Dec. 21.
