Wan can be seen signing posters, while Momoa can be seen posing with fans holding replicas of Arthur Curry's trident. And not to be left out, Heard, who'll be reprising her role as Mera, is seen taking selfies with fans, building hype towards next month's release in America. At the fan event, 25 minutes of footage was reportedly screened for these loyalists.
A lot will be riding on this film, with the fate of the DC Extended Universe is still up in the air as Shazam! and Wonder Woman 2 loom, but so far, the reception to early looks at footage of Aquaman has been relatively positive. Wan promised a swashbuckling and lighthearted adventure, and that seems to be the consensus thus far.
The movie follows Momoa's Aquaman, aka the sea king of Atlantis, as he battles his brother Orm (Patrick Wilson) for his throne while dealing with the likes of Black Manta, the Trench and warring Atlantean factions under the ocean who want to destroy the surface world.
Directed by James Wan, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry and Dolph Lundgren as Nereus. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 21.
