The following contains spoilers for Nubia & the Justice League Special #1, on sale now from DC Comics.

Aquaman, the former King of Atlantis, has now met the new Queen of the Amazons for the first time in the DC Universe.

Written by Michael W. Conrad and Becky Cloonan with art by Amancay Nahuelpan, the story "New Salvation" told within Nubia & the Justice League Special #1 shows Nubia helping out the Justice League's various members while visiting Man's World. After she spends time fighting crime alongside Black Canary, Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter and Black Adam, she is introduced to Aquaman Arthur Curry for the very first time. A panel shows the two interacting while they wait for Diana to arrive at the Hall of Justice, the two telling each other at the exact same time, "It's nice to finally meet you!"

While Aquaman made his first appearance in 1941's More Fun Comics #73, Nubia did not make her comic book debut until three decades later in 1973's Wonder Woman #204. In recent comics, Arthur is no longer the king of Atlantis, while Nubia has been granted the title of Queen. Former Queen of the Amazons Hippolyta gave up the crown to Nubia back in 2021's Infinite Frontier #0 to join the Justice League, but Hippolyta has since joined the gods on Mount Olympus following her death in DC's Trial of the Amazons event.

Nubia has had several titles exploring her journey as Queen since Infinite Frontier, including the series Nubia & the Amazons and Nubia: Queen of the Amazons, as well as the one-shot Nubia: Coronation Special #1. As for Arthur, after the ongoing Aquaman series launched with DC Rebirth ended at Issue #66 in Dec. 2020, the only title to focus on the hero (albeit with others) was the six-issue Aquamen series. Beginning in February and ending in July 2022, Aquamen gave the spotlight not only to Arthur, but Aquaman Jackson Hyde and Black Manta as well.

No New Series for Aquaman or Nubia Have Been Announced

Following the release of Nubia & the Justice League Special, no future titles for Aquaman or Nubia have been announced as of writing. A new "Dawn of DC" initiative has been unveiled for the company, involving the launch of 20 new series in 2023, such as ongoing titles for Superman, Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart, Shazam! and more. Not every new title has been revealed yet, and whether the aforementioned Atlantean and/or Amazon get new series remains to be seen.

Along with Conrad, Cloonan and Nahuelpan, "New Salvation" is colored by Tamra Bonvillain and lettered by Pat Brosseau. Nubia & the Justice League #1 also features a backup story -- "I Am Nubia" -- written by Stephanie Phillips, illustrated by Alitha Martinez, inked by Mark Morales, colored by Alex Guimarães and lettered by Becca Carey. The issue's main cover art is done by Travis Moore and Alejandro Sánchez Rodrguez, with variant covers made by Mateus Manhanini and Joshua Swaby. The issue is now on sale from DC Comics.
