In fiction, Aquaman is the DC Universe's protector of the seas. Now, Aquaman star Jason Momoa has come to the defense of the ocean over some disturbing behavior.

On his Instagram account, Momoa shared an article detailing a video of two Icelandic fishermen who cut off the tail of a Greenland shark, a species that has been listed as “Near Threatened” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. The pair laugh about their cruel act before putting the shark back into the sea. Momoa also uploaded pictures of the men's Facebook profiles.

In response to this act of cruelty, Momoa lambasted the two men in the caption. He let them know that, while they are "probably good men," they still maimed an animal. He also expressed rage at their laughter, but also prayed that they find redemption. At the end, Momoa stated that though everyone makes mistakes, their act was horrendous, going so far as to call it "pure evil" -- and that they will "get what the shark got."

Just like the actual Marine Monarch himself, Momoa stood up for a creature of the deep, and let the two fishermen know just how sick their actions were.

Under James Wan, Aquaman ended up grossing $1.14 billion worldwide and earning mostly positive reviews. An Aquaman sequel is slated to hit theaters on Dec. 16, 2022 and a spinoff focusing on the underwater monsters of The Trench is also in development.
