A new report suggests that Jason Momoa's time playing Arthur Curry/Aquaman in the DC Universe is set to come to an end with 2023's Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. However, Momoa's name is supposedly coming up regarding on-screen plans for a certain other DC character.

New DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran are preparing to meet with Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav regarding their multi-year plan for the DCU. According to The Hollywood Reporter, multiple sources explain Momoa could have a major part to play in those plans. Apparently, one scenario would see Momoa have his Aquaman swan song in Lost Kingdom, though that would not mark the end of the actor's time at DC. Sources say Momoa could lead another franchise, and that the fan-favorite character of Lobo has even "been mentioned in connection with Momoa."

In the DC comics, Lobo is a ruthless Czarnian bounty hunter who kills for fun and profit, even wiping out his home planet for the thrill of it. Lobo has battled multiple clones of himself and fought with members of the Justice League over the years, from Superman to Aquaman. Notably, Momoa has long been rumored to don Lobo's biker leather, though the man himself has remained tight-lipped on the matter. "I'm just happy that Gunn is at the helm and Safran, who is just like my heart," Momoa said. "So I'm in good hands and I think comic book fans around the world are going to be very excited."

The DC Universe Is Changing

Currently, Gunn and Safran are reevaluating a variety of DC movies in the pipeline. According to THR, a Man of Steel sequel starring Henry Cavill as Superman is in flux and the Gal Gadot-led Wonder Woman 3 is effectively "dead" in its current form. A Black Adam sequel with Dwayne Johnson is also being described as an "unlikely" prospect at this stage.

Still, DC is moving forward with a number of previously green-lit projects, including 2023's Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash and Blue Beetle. Matt Reeves' Batman universe is also seeing progress, with HBO Max's The Penguin and an untitled Arkham project, alongside an anticipated sequel to The Batman itself.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set for release on Dec. 25, 2023.
