Aquaman Isn't From Around Here On New Movie Banner

Aquaman

With Aquaman coming out in three weeks, a new banner for the film spotlights the DC Comics superhero with a cheeky nod to his underwater origins.

Showing Jason Momoa's character partially submerged with trident in hand, the heir to the Atlantean throne flashes the surfer's sign to hang loose, while the tagline reminds audiences that the DCEU hero is "not from around here."

The upcoming film is reportedly a conscious effort to shift to a more lighthearted tone than previous DCEU films, including 2016's Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, which has been criticized for being overly grim and somber.

Judging by Arthur Curry's fun-loving attitude and the recognizable sign used by surfers to relax as they catch waves, it looks like the recent marketing push for the film hopes to convey that it will be a lighter experience than previous DCEU outings.

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, and Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna. The film opens on December 21.
