Aquaman is a very grumpy sort of hero. Bear in mind we're talking about the Aquaman from the comics, not the surfer dude-bro that we see in DC films. The Aquaman from the comic books was always more of a reserved hero. He didn't socialize well with others. However, his distant nature is easily understood. He is the king of an underwater principality. He has responsibilities bearing down on his shoulders. That said, his career as a superhero has placed him in direct contact with many of the heroes from the DC Universe. Read on if you want to know which of those heroes Aquaman gets along with and which he just despises.

10 10. Mera (Gets Along With)

The 10 Strongest Female Superheroes, Ranked

This is an obvious one. Mera is a citizen of Atlantis, so she comes from the world that Arthur does. She knows his troubles and can easily help him navigate the perils of their world. Also, it is a definite plus that the two of them share romantic feelings for each other.

That definitely smooths over any issues that might arise between them. More than any other hero in the DC Universe (except maybe Aqualad, but he's a sidekick, so he doesn't count), Mera is the one Arthur gets along with the most. She is his bestie, in other words.

9 9. Green Arrow (Despises)

Maybe the word "despise" is a bit too heavy. Regardless, Green Arrow is one of those heroes who gets under Arthur's skin. If you've read a single Green Arrow comic book, you know he has a very anti-authoritarian viewpoint on life.

Oliver Queen despises the concept of oppression. As such, he does not look too kindly at Arthur's status as King of Atlantis. The two of them butt heads in this regard. However, that doesn't mean they can't work together professionally. They are both outstanding members of the Justice League.

8 8. Martian Manhunter (Gets Along With)

It's strange to think that the two biggest outsiders of the Justice League could get along, but J'onn J'onnz and Arthur Curry defy the odds. One is from the planet Mars and the other is from the depths of Earth's oceans. However, maybe it's their status as outsiders that makes the two of them such a great pair. In the Identity Crisis event, the two of them shared a quiet moment after all was said and done, reflecting on the people they had lost. This is emblematic of the quiet understanding the two of them share.

7 7. Batman (Despises)

Aquaman has a bit of a problem with arrogance. Maybe it comes from being King of Atlantis. Either way, he doesn't seem to like Batman much. (Which is weird, since Batman's so cool, right?) In The New 52, the two of them disagree when it comes to leadership roles in the Justice League.

Aquaman doesn't seem to think that a powerless human should run things. Arthur believes Bruce gets too big for his britches. Now, we're self-admitted Batman fans, so we know that's not the case. Batman's intelligence more than makes up for his lack of powers.

6 6. Wonder Woman (Gets Along With)

Of all the heroes in the Justice League that Aquaman associates with, he perhaps identifies most with Wonder Woman. Both him and Diana come from remote cultures that have a warrior mindset. Looking at the battles the Justice League have gotten into, Diana and Arthur are the ones who possess a fierceness when they fight that other League members lack. This forms a kind of kinship between the two of them that the others might not understand. Plus, Wonder Woman is an excellent diplomat, so she helps set Arthur at ease within the League.

5 5. Green Lantern (Despises)

We want to stress once again that the Aquaman we're referring to here is not the smashingly charismatic Jason Momoa you know from the DC film, Aquaman. That is an adaptation of the character from the comic books that had liberties taken with it.

The Aquaman from the comics is a much more serious beast, and he dislikes when people take frivolous attitudes toward grave matters. Enter Hal Jordan, the cockiest Green Lantern (aside from Guy Gardner) this side of the galaxy. Hal and Arthur clash when Hal's sense of humor gets in the way of things.

4 4. The Flash (Gets Along With)

The Flash running in DC's New 52

Fans of CW's The Flash have gotten to know and appreciate the character of Barry Allen. There is an amiability about Barry that blends humor and nobility together simultaneously. The Barry Allen in the comics is much the same. And it was this Flash that helped Aquaman acclimate to life in the Justice League. None of the other League members would think to help out or accommodate the outsider. No one except for Barry. As such, Barry is one of the heroes that Aquaman does not mind associating with every now and then.

3 3. Hawkman (Despises)

Both Hawkman and Aquaman could win awards for stoicism. Seriously, it's like they've learned the trick to never smiling. They both have a very savage nature to them, with similar dispositions when it comes to stubbornness. Instead of bonding over these similarities, Carter Hall and Arthur Curry clash with each other. This is one of those instances where being alike breeds a strong dislike. However, their disagreements with each other never stops them from putting team objectives first.

2 2. Elongated Man (Gets Along With)

Elongated Man

Okay, we guess the real question here would be who doesn't get along with Ralph Dibny? The Elongated Man is notorious for being one of the most likable heroes in the DC Universe (which is why Identity Crisis killed our hearts). Ralph's unassuming nature and genuine joy for being a member of the Justice League is infectious. If Aquaman began expressing a dislike for Ralph Dibny, our affection for Aquaman would dry up faster than a drop of water in the Sahara. Luckily for him, Aquaman gets along with the Elongated Man.

1 1. Superman (Despises)

There is a mutual respect that Superman and Aquaman have for each other. They both can appreciate and esteem the other's strength. However, underneath that, there is a distinct current of dislike that Arthur feels toward Clark. It has nothing to do with Clark being a Kryptonian. It actually lies with Clark's background on Earth. Arthur disdains Clark's attachment to his country bumpkin past. However, again, maybe the word "despise" is too strong. They are both founding members of the Justice League, and Arthur never had that many friends to begin with.
