The following contains spoilers for Aquamen #6, on sale now from DC Comics.

Aquaman fans witness Mera's reaction to her husband's death in Aquamen #6.

The issue by writers Brandon Thomas, Chuck Brown and artist Max Raynor is the final entry in the Aquamen title that united Arthur Curry, Jackson Hyde and Black Manta. Arthur's last appearance in the issue is when he apologizes to his wife for keeping secrets, though Mera does not forgive him before he rushes off to a Justice League emergency, the battle with Pariah from Justice League #75 that seemingly claimed the life of every single Leaguer present. Mera learns of Arthur's death as it is broadcast across the world, and falls into Jackson's arms outside the Curry Lighthouse in mourning by the end of the issue.

What Happened to Aquaman and the Justice League?

In Justice League #75 or "The Death of the Justice League," the team and the heroes of Justice League Incarnate are transported to Multiverse-2, what remains of the original DC Multiverse that existed prior to writer Marv Wolfman and artist George Pérez's Crisis on Infinite Earths event from the '80s. There, they encounter Pariah (under the influence of the Great Darkness) and his dark army, who plans on restoring the original Multiverse by destroying the current one in comics. After a battle between Pariah's army and the Leagues, the villain appears to murder all the heroes, leaving Black Adam as the sole survivor of the conflict.

In reality, Pariah blasted each Leaguer into their own dreamworld, with Aquaman's shown in the backup story of Dark Crisis: Worlds Without a Justice League - Superman #1. Also written by Thomas with art by Fico Ossio, "Aquaman Has Everything" shows that Arthur's dream is to be surrounded by friends and family as he witnesses his parents renew their wedding vows. Part of that dream involves watching his and Mera's daughter Andy grow up and develop a relationship with Flash Jess Chambers.

Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths, Explained

Aquamen #6, "Death of the Justice League" and the Worlds Without a Justice League one-shots all tie into writer Joshua Williamson and artist Daniel Sampere's Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths event. The story focuses on the legacy heroes (Nightwing, Superman Jon Kent, etc.) of the DC Universe as they try to fill in for the absent Justice League and deal with a crisis of their own. On Earth, the heroes are battling Deathstroke and his Secret Society of Super-Villains, all of whom are behaving as puppets for Pariah elsewhere as he prepares a bigger plan powered by the trapped Justice League.

Aquamen #6 is written by Thomas and Brown with interior art by Raynor, colors by Adriano Lucas, letters by AndWorld Design and main cover art by Travis Moore and Lucas. Variant covers for the issue are contributed to by Ossio, Philip Tan, Daniel Henriques and Elmer Santos. The issue is now on sale from DC Comics.
