A new clip from James Wan's upcoming Aquaman movie has revealed a more in-depth look at the evil underwater army known as the Trench.RELATED: Aquaman: Ocean Master Attacks in Latest FootageThe footage debuted at ComplexCon 2018's Aquaman exhibit, and while most of it encompasses what we've already seen in the debut trailer, Jason Momoa's Aquaman going up against his brother Orm (Patrick Wilson) and his Atlantean army, the final bit of the clip focuses on Aquaman and Amber Heard's Mera jumping off a boat and barely escaping the vicious creatures. It expands on the glimpse seen in that trailer and shows the heroes rushing towards what seems to be a red, aquatic portal.

The Trench was created by Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis during their New 52 run on Aquaman. These books revealed that a previously lost kingdom of Atlantis survived the cataclysm that sank the city into the sea. The region evolved independently of the other two surviving kingdoms, Atlantis and Xebel.

In their home in a deep trench in the Atlantic ocean, governed by a king and queen, the Trench became a bloodthirsty army looking to ravage both the sea and the surface world. The Trench’s exact role in Aquaman is unclear, as is whether or not they'll ally with Orm or Black Manta to end Arthur Curry's hopes of peace.

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry, and Dolph Lundgren as Nereus. The film opens on Dec. 21.
