No footage has been released from Warner Bros.' Aquaman, but we can already confirm one key detail: The hero's arch-nemesis Black Manta will indeed don his iconic helmet.

Director James Wan confirmed as much with on Twitter with a photo of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II re-recording dialogue for the upcoming film. The Black Manta actor is shown smiling, and holding an empty trash can to his head. "Hey, [Abdul-Mateen]," the filmmaker wrote, "why are you talking into a trash can?? Oh right. Fancy way of simulating the inside of a certain large helmet."

In every depiction of the DC Comics villain -- in comics, animation and video games -- he's been depicted as wearing large helmet that evokes the image of a manta ray. Black Manta, whose real name David Hyde, has long held a grudge against Aquaman for failing to rescue him as a child from his kidnappers. In addition to allowing him to breathe underwater, the helmet fires eye beams that make the character deadly at a distance. So far, photos have surfaced of Abdul-Mateen in costume. But with the filming swimming toward its December release, it's only a matter of time before they do.

Arriving Dec. 21, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry and Dolph Lundgren as Nereus.
