Actor Amber Heard is set to reprise her role as Mera in James Wan's upcoming Aquaman film. Although that film hasn't yet released in North America, Heard has big hopes for her character's future in the DC Extended Universe and hopes she'll one day get to team up with Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman in a spinoff film.
“I would really love to team up with Wonder Woman," Heard told The Hollywood Reporter. "That would be a kickass duo right there. But I’m vying for a spinoff, right? You heard it here. Fishing for, whatever I’m fishing for with The Hollywood Reporter, I’m putting it first out there. Mera and Wonder Woman spinoff. Go for it Warner Bros.”
Gadot and Heard both appeared in 2017's Justice League, which marked the latter's debut as Mera. However, the two never interacted on camera. The characters teaming up in the future isn't impossible, but there's nothing to indicate that Warner Bros. has any intention at this time of pursuing such a project.
Heard will reprise her role in James Wan's Aquaman, which also stars Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus and Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna. The film opens on December 21.
Gadot will reprise her role as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman in Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman 1984. That movie also stars Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Kristen Wiig as Barbara Minerva/Cheetah, Pedro Pascal and Natasha Rothwell. The film opens June 5, 2020.
