Earlier today, Jason Momoa revealed the new "stealth suit" he will wear as Arthur Curry in the upcoming DC Extended Universe film Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the sequel to 2018's Aquaman. This new, dark blue getup worn by the DCEU's Aquaman is directly inspired by an outfit the character sported in the pages of DC Comics back in the 1980s

"Here's [Jason Momoa] in the classic [Aquaman] suit and a sneak peek at his other outfit -- the stealth suit," Lost Kingdom director James Wan wrote on Instagram. "Atlantean tech based on cephalopod's camouflaging ability. [Screenwriter] David Leslie Johnson and I were inspired by the '80s 'blue suit.'"

The "blue suit" Wan refers to is the camouflage suit worn by Arthur Curry in the four-part 1986 limited series Aquaman by Neal Pozner,

Craig Hamilton, Steve Montano, Joe Orlando and Bob Lappan. In that series, Aquaman dons the suit so as to better blend in with the ocean around him. The camouflage suit recently made a return to the world of DC as part of Aquaman: Deep Dives. Aquaman's '80s costume also served as the inspiration for Aqualad's suit in the 2003 Teen Titans animated series.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is scheduled for release on Dec. 16, 2022.
