The ongoing petition to remove Amber Heard from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has passed 4 million signatures.

The Change.org petition currently sits at 4,000,130 signatures at the time of writing and continues to steadily grow. Since the last milestone of 3 million signatures on May 3, 2022, the movement has gained another million followers in the span of 11 days. The petition calls on Warner Bros. to replace Amber Heard as Mera in the second live-action Aquaman film, citing Johnny Depp's $50 million defamation lawsuit exposing the actress as a domestic. "As Amber Heard is a known and proven domestic abuser, Warner Brothers and DC Entertainment should and must remove Heard from their Aquaman 2 film project. They must not ignore the suffering of Heard's victims, and must not glamorize a domestic abuser," reads the petition.

The aforementioned legal battle between the actors began in 2020 when the Pirates of the Caribbean actor lost a libel case against The Sun who ran an op-ed piece penned by Heard which alleged that she suffered abuse at the hands of Depp, labeling him a "wife-beater." Depp has since disputed the claims, insisting that he was abused by Heard.

The actor also claimed that his ex-wife's statements have cost him several major roles, effectively ending his career in Hollywood. Depp was infamously replaced as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore and reportedly lost out on a $22.5 million paycheck due to the cancelation of Pirates of the Caribbean 6.

Despite the surging interest in the recent petition, which has remained open for roughly a year, Warner Bros. stated in 2021 that it had no impact on the filming of the Aquaman sequel. I don't think we're ever going to react to, honestly, pure fan pressure," said producer Peter Safran. "You gotta do what's best for the movie. We felt that if it's James Wan, and Jason Momoa, it should be Amber Heard. That's really what it was." At the time of writing, Heard is still set to appear as Mera in the upcoming DCEU blockbuster.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom arrives in theaters on March 17, 2023. At the time of writing, a final verdict on the Depp/Heard legal battle has yet to be reached.
