Aquaman 2 star Jason Momoa shares how he put his "soul" into the film's script.

While being a guest on The Drew Barrymore Show, Momoa announced that Aquaman 2 begins filming in July. In addition to updating DC Extended Universe fans about the film's production, Momoa shared that he not only pitched Aquaman 2 to Warner Bros. but co-wrote the first draft of the film. "I love it so much that I participated in the writing of it," he said.

The Game of Thrones star continued, "And so we did the first treatment, and James [Wan] and our original writer David [Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick] finished it off. And all of our hearts are in it. Instead of just getting a script and doing that. You're 100% being encouraged by your director and co-writers so that's exciting for me. And I'm excited to go over there."

In 2019, Momoa shared some details about his pitching process, stating, "I came in with a big pitch [to Warner Bros.]. I came in with the whole thing mapped out, and they loved it."

Barrymore also asked Momoa if it was true that he lied to nab his first acting gig. The Aquaman star revealed that he did, stating that he and his friends at the time were nineteen years old and heard of a casting call for Hawaiians to be extras in Baywatch. Momoa went and ended up being cast in a lead role -- Jason Ioane who was on Baywatch from 1999-2001. When the television executives asked for his resume, he pretended to be a model with no acting experience, stating, "Oh yeah, yeah, I did Louis Vuitton and I did something with Gucci. And so basically I made up a bunch of stuff and wrote down that I modeled 'cause I didn't act before and now I'm here. Back then, you couldn't really look it up, know what I mean?"

Aquaman 2 will not only show the return of Lundgren as King Nereus but Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta and Patrick Wilson as Aquaman's half-brother Orm/Ocean Master. Director James Wan has also revealed he intends to include more elements from his horror movie background in the film, although the specific elements are being kept under wraps.

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman 2 stars Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta. The film is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on Dec. 16, 2022.
