Patrick Wilson promised that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will take all of the best parts of the original and amplify them.

While promoting his new film Moonfall, Wilson spoke to ComicBook.com about what fans can expect from Orm the Ocean Master and his rivalry with his half-brother, Arthur Curry. And while Wilson naturally couldn't give too much away, he said that director James Wan expanded on the fun tonal moments from the first film to deliver something even more crowd-pleasing.

"The movie's gonna be a blast," Wilson said. "We had such a great time shooting it, I will absolutely say that. And the tone, I think he took the tone in those moments in the first one that we enjoyed, and that kind of went beyond the comic book world in that they were much more really appealing to a wider audience, and we embraced that. I think we embraced the tone much more in this movie, we established what James established, what he wanted to do with the first one, it was clearly successful, and it's like, 'Okay, so now let's just push it.' So every little fun moment, every goofy moment, every heartfelt moment, every action moment, some of the set pieces are unbelievable, the stunts were crazy, fighting sequences are crazy, just awesome."

Wilson doesn't point to anything specific, but the original film did feature a number of colorful and over-the-top moments not seen in many other blockbusters. It could be these moments, along with the comedic and heartfelt moments Wilson mentions, that will inform the tone of the new film.

Not much is known about the sequel's plot, and fans are eagerly awaiting a trailer for the DC movie, but it will see the return of Orm, Aquaman, Mera, Black Manta, and more characters from the first movie. Filming on Aquaman 2 wrapped in January, so more concrete details about the sequel should be right around the corner.

The official synopsis for the new Aquaman film, meanwhile, teases an ancient foe being unearthed, causing the hero to join forces with an enemy. Whether this refers to Orm, Manta, or another foe of Aquaman, it's not yet clear.

Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom arrives Dec. 16 in theaters.
