Warner Bros.' Aquaman concluded with a climactic uprising, resulting in the defeat of King Orm and his allies, with Arthur Curry poised to become the new King of Atlantis. But neither Orm nor his compatriots fell in that battle and, judging from recent photos, both Orm and his ally, King Nereus, played by Dolph Lundgren, still have a part to play in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

On social media, Lundgren posted an image of himself in his trailer, teasing that it was on the set of the Aquaman sequel. He did not have a costume on, but he did appear to have Nereus' hair. He wrote, "Hanging out in my trailer on Aquaman 2. Great script, great director, terrific cast and a fantastic crew. Really enjoying it!"

While no new images have been released featuring King Nereus in particular, photos and stills from the set of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom have given audiences a first look at the rest of the film's cast. King Orm, for example, will return with a slightly different look. Actor Patrick Wilson was seen on set sporting a long beard and extremely worn clothes, suggesting the film will touch on Orm and his time in prison, following the events of Aquaman.

But familiar faces is not all the sequel will have to offer. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will introduce at least three new characters to Arthur's world. Actors Indya Moore, Jani Zhao and Vincent Regan will appear in the film. Moore is set to play Karshon, who, in the comics, was an ordinary tiger shark until a blast of radiation turned it into a more humanoid creature, possessing both a highly-developed brain, as well as its predatory instincts. Regan will appear as Atlan, the ancient ruler of Atlantis who briefly appeared -- albeit with Graham McTavish playing the role -- in Aquaman. Meanwhile, Zhao will play an original character named Stingray.

Though details concerning the plot are scarce, star Jason Momoa previously gave audiences some idea of what they can expect to see from director James Wan's upcoming film. "This Aquaman, this time around, I feel like we're pulling out all of the stops... We all learned something on the first one." He went on to say, "There is so much going on. I think the stakes are a lot higher." Finally, Momoa added, "There's a lot of comedy. So, I mean, I giggled reading it." The star has also revealed that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will feature more impressive action sequences than its predecessor.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is scheduled to arrive in theaters Dec. 16, 2022.
