Aquaman 2 writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick revealed the Silver Age of Aquaman comics will be a big influence on the character of Black Manta.

Johnson-McGoldrick responded to a user on Twitter asking for comic book recommendations. "We're not taking any one particular comic book story and adapting it, but if you want to know the vibe we're going for, pick up pretty much any Silver Age story featuring Black Manta," he said.

The Silver Age of comics took place between the mid-1950s-1970s and featured Aquaman as one of the founding members of the Justice League. Created by Bob Haney and Nick Cardy, the character of Black Manta would make his first appearance during the Silver Age in 1967's Aquaman #35. The character has since become one of Aquaman's most enduring foes.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II portrayed David Kane/Black Manta in the first Aquaman film and is set to reprise his role in the sequel. Not much has been released about the film's plot, though a producer has said it will showcase the other Kingdoms of Atlantis.
