Amber Heard has shared a photo of her working out, seemingly suggesting that she is in preparation of reprising her role as Mera in Aquaman 2.

Heard posted the image to her Instagram account, writing "Alexa, play 'Pussy Talk' by City Girls" and using the hashtag #aquaman2. Some observers have noted, however, that the image appears very similar to a set the actor originally released during her workout for the first film in 2017, suggesting it may be a repost. Heard's message indicates she is the latest Aquaman cast member to confirm they've started training for the sequel, after Patrick Wilson posted a photo from his own workout ahead of his return as Orm/Ocean Master in the film.

2018's Aquaman saw Mera, the princess of the underwater kingdom Xebel, team up with Arthur Curry to track down the Trident of Atlan, in the hope of stopping Orm from declaring war on the surface world and installing Arthur as the rightful king of Atlantis. A year before that, Heard made her DC Extended Universe debut during Justice League, pitting Mera up against Steppenwolf when the latter tried to claim the Atlanteans' Mother Box for Darkseid. Heard would go on to participate in the reshoots for Zack Snyder's Justice League, filming a scene where Mera is one of a handful of heroes to survive Darkseid's assault on Earth in the movie's Knightmare future.

In spite of rumors stemming from her long-running dispute with her ex-husband Johnny Depp, Heard confirmed she would return for Aquaman 2 in Nov. 2020. "I'm super excited about the amount of fan love and the amount of fan appreciation that Aquaman has acquired and that it has garnered so much excitement for Aquaman and Mera that it means we'll be coming back. I'm so excited to film that," Heard said. "Paid rumors and paid campaigns on social media don't dictate [casting decisions] because they have no basis in reality. Only the fans actually made Aquaman and Aquaman 2 happen. I'm excited to get started next year."

While its plot is under-wraps, Aquaman 2 writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick hinted at some of the film's DC Comics inspirations in March 2020."We're not taking any one particular comic book story and adapting it, but if you want to know the vibe we're going for, pick up pretty much any Silver Age story featuring Black Manta," he said.

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman 2 stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Dolph Lundgren and Pilou Asbaek. The film arrives in theaters Dec. 16, 2022.
