With Halloween coming up, Apex Legends has brought back the much-anticipated Fight or Fright event. This year the event introduces Shadow Royale, a reimagined version of last year's Shadowfall LTE. The event returns players to King's Canyon After Dark, this time with a few new updates, including a twist on the gameplay, as well as wall running and a double jump for shadows.

In the new Shadow Royale game mode, players are thrown into the game in the traditional three-man squad. After a squad member is eliminated, they become a "Shadow Form" to return the favor to enemy squads through melee attacks. This is already a 180 from last year’s event where players solo-queued and choose to either befriend or betray other remaining solo legends.

Shadow squad members can revive knocked living squadmates to continue the fight. Once the final living member of the squad is dead, however, the squad is eliminated. This comes as a welcome change as, after a few days of the event being released last year, players began to leave matches when they became shadows rather than stay to play it out. Now players returning as shadows have more motive to stay in the match to support their teammates and catch the dub.

A final note Respawn gave players about the new game mode was to keep their eyes peeled for new mobility enhancements given to shadow legends. These enhancements are the wall running and double jump featured in the Titanfall games. Additionally, they tell players not to be surprised if they pick up another member on the squad along the way. It's hinted that the fourth squadmate will be the hell-beasts that Revenant holds in his own personal shelter.

Along with releasing a new game mode, Respawn also brought back all 24 of last year’s exclusive Halloween items and even revamped a few of last year’s Halloween skins. On top of the popular skins returning, new spooky skins for Revenant and Loba make an appearance. These items can be found through the in-game shop. The shop rotates weekly, so check out the release calendar to find your favorite cosmetics' best deal.

Apex Legends has also added a new twist to the Fight or Fright event, the haunting prize track. Like the battlepass or the Aftermarket event, players raise their level in the track by completing various in-game challenges. Successfully going up the haunting prize track will reward players with new skins, charms and trackers.

Fight or Fright runs from October 22 to November 3, after which players can begin to anticipate the arrival of season 7, which will see the release of Champion Edition and a new Legend, Horizon.
