Sam Wilson's journey to becoming Captain America concluded in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but Anthony Mackie hadn't seen his star-spangled action figure until now.

On The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the host Colbert showed Anthony Mackie the brand new item. He demonstrated the adjustability of the wings and the iconic shield which inspired laughter from the actor. Mackie said, "That's dope! From this distance, he looks more like Jamie Foxx than me! Yeah, that's amazing. I haven't seen it yet, I've never seen one of those."

Sam was first given the shield by an elderly Steve Rogers in Avengers: Endgame. In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Wilson donates the shield to the Captain America Exhibit in Washington's Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, only for it to be reclaimed by the U.S. government and given to John Walker, a highly decorated soldier, as their new Cap.

Throughout the series, Sam and Bucky team up to stop the anti-patriotism group Flag-Smashers while Sam arrives at a place to take on the Cap mantle.

In the finale episode, "One World, One People," Sam officially becomes Captain America, complete with the comics-accurate costume made of Vibranium designed by the Wakandans. It's primarily white and blue with some red and he still sports wings. Now he uses the shield in concert with his high-flying moves.

On the same day as the finale, Marvel Studios announced that a Captain America 4 movie, starring Mackie as the titular hero, is being developed. The movie will be written by Malcolm Spellman, the showrunner of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, along with fellow show writer Dalan Musson. Captain America 4 doesn't currently have a release date.

Directed by Kari Skogland, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Wyatt Russell, Noah Mills, Carl Lumbly and Daniel Brühl. The entire first season is available to stream on Disney+.
