The Hurt Locker star Anthony Mackie is in talks to join Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson in Pain and Gain, the dark comedy from director Michael Bay, Variety reports.

The low-budget Paramount Pictures feature is based on a true story about a group of Florida bodybuilders that kidnap a businessman only to be hunted down by an investigator the victim hires. Mackie would play Adrian Doorbal, a bighearted bodybuilder who has little to show for his hard work, leading him to become involved in the scheme.

Ed Harris and Rob Corddry co-star in the film, which features a script by Captain America: The First Avenger screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. Production is set to begin in early spring.

Mackie, who also appeared in The Adjustment Bureau and Real Steel, will next be seen in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
