Production officially passed its midway point on Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter about her new film South of Heaven, Evangeline Lilly dropped a hint on where her and Paul Rudd's upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film is at the moment. "We're just a little over halfway," Lilly said, though she didn't reveal anything else about the story or its depiction of Jonathan Majors as new villain Kang the Conqueror.

Instead, the actor teased a better comprehension of Hope van Dyne's arc after four Marvel appearances, leading to a "eureka moment" while looking through Quantumania's script. "I said to Peyton [Reed], "Oh my God, I think I finally get her," Lilly recalled about a conversation with the franchise director. "Three or four films in, I thought, 'I think I get it now.' So I'm hoping that when we come to wrap and when I see the movie, I'm going to know the difference. But I don't think anyone else will. I think I'm a good bluffer. That's what I do for a living. But I know the difference and I'm hopeful that in this one, I'll feel like I can watch it and go, 'Yeah, you had a better handle on her in this one than you ever have before.'"

Lilly first appeared as Hope in 2015's Ant-Man but officially put on her Wasp costume for its 2018 sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp, in which she and Rudd shared title credits. Despite being killed by the Infinity Stones, Hope was revived in Avengers: Endgame and participated alongside Scott Lang in the final battle against Thanos' forces, later attending Tony Stark's funeral with him and her parents. Lilly and Rudd also voiced their characters in the fifth Marvel's What If...? episode, which envisions a world where Hank Pym unwittingly unleashed a zombie virus after finding Janet van Dyne in the Quantum Realm, one that eventually infected the Avengers.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania began production in mid-June and will see most of the first two films' cast return, with some notable exceptions like Kathryn Newton playing Scott's now-teenage daughter Cassie. Majors, who was announced as Kang last December, made an early debut in Loki as the character's Variant He Who Remains, who revealed that he purposefully built the Time Variance Authority to prevent any other version of Kang from having access to the multiverse. This plot device, which What If...? recently explored and Sony's Venom: Let There be Carnage briefly teased, will be fleshed out further in movies like Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Directed by Peyton Reed, Marvel Studios' Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania arrives in theaters Feb. 17, 2023.
