Walt Disney Studios announced that tickets are now on sale for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
The studio revealed the ticket sales along with a set of mind-bending character posters for Scott Lang/Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors), Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton). A TV Spot also accompanied the announcement, which debuted last night during the NFL Super Wild Card match between the Dallas Cowboys and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
An Avengers Movie With One Avenger
The upcoming flick sees Scott and his family go up against the Marvel Cinematic Universe's new Thanos, but they lack the support of other significant hitters. Quantumania writer Jeff Loveness recalled how he pitched the film as an Avengers movie with just Ant-Man. "The first discussion [the production team] had was, 'What if Ant-Man is accidentally in an Avengers movie by himself?'"
Director Peyton Reed had a similar thought. He once spoke with Marvel Studios President/Marvel CCO Kevin Feige to convince him to make Quantumania an Avengers-level film. "People felt like, 'Oh, [the Ant-Man films] are fun little palate cleansers after a gigantic Avengers movie.' For this third one, I said, 'I don't want to be the palate cleanser anymore. I want to be the big Avengers movie.'" The Avengers-level threat comes from Majors' Kang the Conquerer, who first appeared as his variant He Who Remains in Loki Season 1. Reed teased the danger of Kang, calling him a greater threat than The Infinity Saga's Thanos. That being said, Majors himself called Josh Brolin's turn as Thanos in Infinity War and Endgame a different type of threat from Kang and stated he thought fans should avoid comparing the two.
Ant-Man Earned A Massive Film Like Quantumania
Feige ultimately agreed with Reed's argument that Ant-Man had earned the right to headline a major feature for the MCU. While speaking about the upcoming film in an interview with Reed, Feige explained the decision to give Rudd's hero a significant place in the next phase of the Multiverse Saga. "We wanted to kick off Phase Five with Ant-Man because he'd earned that position," Feige explained. "To not simply be the back-up or the comic relief, but to take his position at the front of the podium of the MCU."
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania arrives in theaters on Feb. 17, 2023.
