Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania director Peyton Reed has confirmed that Scott Lang's daughter, Cassie Lang, will be 18 years old in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film.

While speaking to Nerdbunker, Reed was asked what it was like as the director of Marvel Studios' Ant-Man movies to see leading man Paul Rudd's eponymous hero change and follow his story arc. Reed replied that it was "gratifying" to see audiences accept Ant-Man and that he thinks that they find Scott relatable due to him being a normal person who gets caught up fantastical adventures.

"But I think we've all grown and what we want to do with the movies and how we see the character, the family dynamics, to us, after the events of [Avengers: Infinity War] and Endgame, it really occurred to us, obviously, 'Well, Cassie's going to be 18 in this movie, that's great.'" he continued. "The whole theme is time and how much time he's missed and his main motivation is just, 'I want time with my daughter.' And now he's coming into contact with a villain in this movie, Kang the Conqueror, who has dominion over time, and what does that mean to them?"

Will Cassie Lang Become a Young Avenger?

Besides Reed bringing up her age, Cassie's new actor, Kathryn Newton, had previously spoken about Cassie as a character, delving into similarities she found that she had with her. Newton spoke about how she's not perfect, is "super impatient" and wants to be a hero, but doesn't really know what she's doing, which she thinks Cassie is like. "She's just trying to figure out how to be a good person and making a lot of mistakes," Newton concluded. "She's kind of a mess, really, and so am I."

Shifting the topic over to Kang the Conqueror, Reed touched upon how he brought the character to life, mentioning how Kang's situation in Quantumania differs from the comics, though he didn't spoil anything about it. "[He's] someone who, [while] we live very linear lives, from childhood to death, Kang doesn't exist that way," Reed said. "It struck me as interesting to take the tiniest Avengers -- in some people's minds maybe the least powerful Avengers -- and put them up against the most powerful force in the multiverse." Tying into that cryptic comment, Reed had also teased that Kang would be a bigger threat than Thanos, though Kang's actor Jonathan Majors explained why the two villains shouldn't be compared.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania opens in theaters on Feb. 17, 2023.
