Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania star and Marvel Cinematic Universe veteran Evangeline Lilly revealed that she believes the upcoming movie is the best installment in the Ant-Man franchise.
While speaking to The Digital Fix, Lilly discussed what it was like working on Quantumania. "Film sets are already impersonal enough, there is so much that goes on and so much that has to get done in a short amount of time, and the intensity level is really, really high. So it was a very trying experience doing the film with Covid measures," Lilly stated. "But I actually think…what we did, the stuff we shot, the material we managed to get, I think it might be the best one yet."
Prior to this, Lilly, who has played the character of Hope van Dyne/the Wasp since 2015's Ant-Man, revealed last year that she had finally understood her character thanks to reading Quantumania's script. "[The cast and crew are] just a little over halfway through. And I will say that after I read the script of the film, I did have a kind of eureka moment," she recalled. "I said to [director Peyton Reed], 'Oh my God, I think I finally get her.' Three or four films in, I thought, 'I think I get it now.'" In both cases, Lilly did not reveal any information surrounding the events of the movie.
While plot details for Quantumania have not been made available, it is known that the movie will have Kang the Conqueror as its main villain. Kang's actor Jonathan Majors, who played a version of the character dubbed He Who Remains on Disney+'s Loki, had previously discussed how the two roles differ from one another, saying, "The character is different so you move a different way; my psychology has shifted because of the character. He's just a different guy. He Who Remains is not in Ant-Man. It's Kang. But the people surrounding us – the cast, my leading man, Paul Rudd – that's different. Because Paul's not Tom [Hiddleston]. This is a movie, not a TV show. I've been here since the beginning and I came in at the end on Loki."
Rudd himself spoke very highly of Major's work on Quantumania. "I've loved everything he's done, and I see what he's doing in this, and I'm knocked out by it," noted Rudd. "It is really fun to bring new people into the fold, and the enthusiasm that people have is palpable."
Additionally, Bill Murray recently confirmed that he will play a villain in the film, though he did not provide details as to his character's identity, merely commenting, "My power is, I'm a bad guy." It has been rumored, however, that Murray may be portraying Krylar, a lesser-known Hulk character.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania arrives in theaters on July 28, 2023.
