SPOILER WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Marvel Studios' "Ant-Man," now in theaters.

"Ant-Man," the latest installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, plays into the grand scheme of the Marvel Studios plan with two post-credits sequences: one of which revealed the Wasp costume and the other which teased the events of "Captain America: Civil War." However, before these finalized sequences, director Peyton Reed had a different conclusion in mind, and he revealed exactly what that was in an interview with CinemaBlend.

"At the end of the movie he gets away and has these Cross particles, and there was a sequence where Ant-Man has an encounter with him," Reed explained. "But then for a couple reasons, it felt like maybe we should leave those particles out there. In that original thing, he took Martin Donovan out and got the particles."

In the film, Donovan's character Mitchell Carson was a high ranking member of S.H.I.E.L.D. who worked alongside Howard Stark and Peggy Carter. When the relationship between Hank Pym and S.H.I.E.L.D. soured, Pym punched Carson in the face. Truly a Hydra agent, Carson later goes on to attempt to purchase Darren Cross' Yellowjacket technology and, since this post-credits scene never came to fruition, he ultimately gets away with the Cross Particles, which may yet play a role in the MCU.

Starring Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas and Corey Stoll, "Ant-Man" is now playing in theaters.
