Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has proven in just its trailers that something big is coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But rather than the threat of Thanos, the real danger will be from Kang the Conqueror and his variants. For now, only two iterations of the villain have been shown, with He Who Remains being a prophet of doom and Kang being that doom personified. That said, aside from his ability to travel and impact time, the limits of his power are largely unknown.

In the comics, Kang wasn't known for his immense strength or superior powers. Instead, his cunning mind and master tactical sense were what made him a danger to those around him. But as the MCU has shown, the films aren't afraid to change and enhance character origins to better fit their narrative. In this Quantumania's case, that may come from an aspect of Kang that has always been there but never focused on: his scars. But one theory may have a clever explanation as to why they're there.

Kang Uses His Scars To Control His Suit

The comic book version of Kang utilized a simple-looking suit of armor that gave him abilities but was also deceptively advanced. Part of his mask also included lines on his face that were more decorative in nature than anything else. But in Quantumania, their presence may represent something more fitting for the universe. As a theory from New Rockstars posits, the scars may tie to nanobots injected into Kang's head to allow him to control his suit with a thought. This was shown when his mask retracted, and his eyes went from blue to a traditional brown. Because of this, it could be likely that the source of his power came from experimentation.

Iron Man 3 presented this idea initially when Tony Stark used nanocomputers in his arms to control the Mark 42 armor. Regarding Kang and his future tech, he may have similarly injected 31st-century technology into his body that would help him command his suit and time chair fast enough to contend with any threat. That said, his injections may have introduced something far more dangerous than command over his suit.

Kang's Scars May Also Allude to More Powers

Kang shoots blue energy out of his hands in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

While his main function, using his tech, would be to control his suit, Kang's scars may also have given him powers shown in the trailer. For example, in the final shot of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's trailer, Kang unleashed a barrage of energy blasts from his palms, like Iron Man. But what was most interesting was that his scars and eyes lit up as he charged up and unleashed the attack. As a result, it's possible that his injections also gave him abilities similar to how the Ten Rings gave Wenwu immortality by wearing them.

Kang's ability to manipulate individuals to do what he desires means that he wouldn't need powers to get what he wanted. With an army and proper motivation, he would likely not even have to leave his chair. That said, the reason he would have powers might be to take on and kill any heroes that may stand in his way. Considering he's already killed so many, he may even have contingencies for each hero. But perhaps none of this would've been possible without his unique scars and the reasons for their presence.
