While Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania won't arrive until 2023, star Paul Rudd is already singing the praises of the movie's big bad.

Variety spoke to Rudd about the upcoming third Ant-Man film during the actor's promotional tour for Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Though Rudd naturally couldn't divulge any details about Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror, he did have plenty of love for what the acclaimed actor is bringing to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"I’ve loved everything he’s done, and I see what he’s doing in this, and I’m knocked out by it," Rudd said. "It is really fun to bring new people into the fold, and the enthusiasm that people have is palpable."

The outlet also confirmed that the film is currently shooting in London, where Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness recently wrapped production. Not much is known about the plot of the film, but the title certainly implies a return to the Quantum Realm. And considering the dimension opened up the doors of time travel in Avengers: Endgame, it's no surprise that Kang will be the villain.

In the comics, he's well known for his time-traveling schemes, but Majors' debut in the Season 1 finale of Loki earlier this year also showed that the villain will be intrinsically tied to the birth of the multiverse. Given that level of interconnectedness and power, it's no surprise he's being positioned as the next Thanos.

"The exciting thing about getting to originate that character on the page in the MCU was creating a totally different energy than what Thanos is, which is very measured, principled, almost monk-like in his evil aspirations," Loki head writer Michael Waldron said about Majors' Kang back in August. "And obviously He Who Remains, it's a much more squirrelly, chaotic, narcissistic presence, so that was a lot of fun."

Even more intriguing is the idea that the MCU as we know it is actually part of a grand plan orchestrated by Kang, or some version of him. After all, the TVA told Loki that the events of Endgame were allowed to unfold by the head of the organization.

"Everything has been predetermined by this one character, even if up to this point we’ve believed the characters have had free will," Loki director Kate Herron said this summer. "Which I think is kind of the fun rug-pull of our show, right?"

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hits theaters Feb. 17, 2023.
