Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania screenwriter Jeff Loveness confirms the film has its own Star Wars cantina scene.

During an interview with SFX Magazine, Loveness discussed the atmosphere of the upcoming threequel, as well as what fans can look forward to as it explores the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Quantum Realm. "It's like this completely open canvas," Loveness explained. "We've seen outer space so many times – Star Wars, Star Trek, things like that. 'Just do the opposite of outer space' is the dumb pitch! What is on that sub-atomic level? What creatures would you find? What are the evolutionary differences?"

He continued, "Even just the concept of spaceships flying around. In space, there’s no atmosphere. The Quantum Realm is pure atmosphere. So what does that dynamic look like? Is it more like an old naval vessel that would go through the ocean... and the ocean is the sky? It gives you a whole different ecological backdrop. And then you can have random creatures, in that fun Star Wars way. We have our version of the Star Wars cantina scene, albeit in a different setting and kind of a different vibe."

Marvel Gets its Own Cantina Scene

The famous cantina scene in reference comes from 1977's initial entry into the Star Wars franchise, Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. The scene finds Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker and Alec Guinness' Obi-Wan Kenobi venturing to the Mos Eisley cantina in search of transport, only to find Harrison Ford's Han Solo as their best and only option. Apart from Han Solo and Chewbacca, the scene also introduced fan favorites such as the Max Reebo band, and in the years since its first appearance has become an iconic locale in the Star Wars Universe.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is set to bring back the eponymous duo of Paul Rudd's Scott Lang and Evangeline Lilly's Hope van Dyne to take on the threat of Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror. The film is also slated to mark the MCU debut of longtime fan-favorite villain M.O.D.O.K., who was last brought to life on the small screen as voiced by Patton Oswalt for Hulu's M.O.D.O.K. stop-motion animated series. Loveness previously noted that the MCU's version of the character, portrayed by Corey Stoll, was "inspired by Kevin Kline in A Fish Called Wanda and Frank Grimes in an old Simpsons episode."

In regard to the seemingly overwhelming threats the film's heroes will be facing as they kick off Phase 5 of the MCU, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige stated simply, "We always love doing the unexpected with Scott Lang." Feige added, "Ant-Man is arguably the character that is the most underestimated. Ant-Man became the key to saving the universe in Avengers: Endgame. So, carrying that tradition we thought, 'Well, let's use [Ant-Man 3] to kick off Phase Five."

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania arrives in theaters on Feb. 17.
