Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will finally introduce Kang, the Marvel Cinematic Universe's latest threat. Already teased through a variant seen in the show Loki, the main Kang is a far different and much deadlier individual. In fact, his previous exploits may have seen him face The Avengers in the past.

Kang's entire premise is based on time travel and having numerous variants throughout the multiverse. In a new featurette for the film, it's suggested that some of his past actions involving these concepts have seen him banished. That helps motivate him and could turn him into the next Thanos, though it does beg the question of who defeated him in the past.

Ant-Man 3's Kang Was Already Defeated Before Entering the Quantum Realm

In the featurette, Kang notes that he's seeking revenge upon those who had banished him. That explains his place in the movie, as whoever he had fought beforehand sent him to the Quantum Realm as punishment. Prior, some fans questioned why Kang was going first appear vexing Ant-Man, especially considering how low-key and humorous the hero's previous movies are. The explanation is that the Quantum Realm is something of a prison for the conquering Kang. Of course, his crimes are still unknown, but his nature as a time-traveling maniacal conqueror seems to explain that.

Now the only mystery is who was responsible for banishing Kang in the first place. While it's possible some of his own variants are responsible, it could just as easily be the Fantastic Four, who've yet to be introduced in the MCU. Reed Richards is related to Kang in a crucial way in the comics, and that link may appear in the movies. Likewise, previously shown footage showcased Kang asking Ant-Man if he had killed him before, cementing how much he's traveled throughout the multiverse to alternate dimensions. So, it's possible that The Avengers had defeated him in an alternate reality, with Kang seeking vengeance upon them and anyone related to them.

More than likely, this team would have included the likes of Iron Man and Steve Rogers' Captain America, making Kang's potential vengeance all the more frustrating when he leaves the Quantum Realm to discover that they're dead in the main universe. Of course, there's also the potential for him to have been defeated by an even more unlikely hero.

An Alternate Ant-Man May Have Defeated Kang in the MCU

Ant-Man meets Kang in Quantumania

The clash between Kang and Ant-Man is unconventional, but making it one of Scott's variants that sentenced Kang to the Quantum Realm would work on several levels. For one, it would cement that Ant-Man truly is one of the Avengers and a major hero in his own right, despite his humble and crooked beginnings. It would also make any potential heroic sacrifice all the more satisfying, acting as a fitting epilogue to Scott's story.

Once it's been revealed that Ant-Man, the arguable comedic heart of the current Avengers, has been killed by Kang, it would also make the latter a bigger threat. The Avengers would now need to stop Kang out of revenge for what he had done to their friend, making their mission more personal. With Kang seeking to use Ant-Man in some way in order to escape the Quantum Realm, however, he'll likely need him alive in some capacity. But no matter what his ties are to Ant-Man, it's clear that Kang is out for blood and is willing to draw it from whoever gets in his way.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania opens in theaters Feb. 17.
