Reprising his Loki role as a variant of Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Jonathan Majors says that playing a role with multiple multiversal iterations is similar to quarterbacking a football team.

The actor elaborated on this comparison when speaking with Collider after the Quantumania panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2022. "I would say I grew up in Texas and played around with sports," Majors said. "The best thing about sports when you're playing the point guard or the quarterback is, a good quarterback or point guard, they have amnesia." the actor commented. "They don't remember the good plays, they don't remember the bad plays, they just remember they got to play the game. So that's how I am with these guys. I just play the script. Tell the story. That's how it goes."

"I think the thing about Kang, even the comic books, he contains multitudes," Majors said. "For me, it's a great exploration of myself, just to figure out how much of myself can I explore and share? That's the opportunity that Kang and He Who Remains offers."

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that Majors would be playing multiple variants of the villain in upcoming MCU titles, including the new Ant-Man movie and the Phase 6 project Avengers: The Kang Dynasty which is set to be released in May 2025. It was also announced at SDCC that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton would be directing this eminent Avengers film.

While Kang's blue-and-purple design has yet to be seen by MCU fans, the variant introduced in Disney+'s Loki, He Who Remains, was a version that used the Time Variance Authority to protect himself within the sacred timeline, providing him with security from the grander multiverse and the other, more violent Kangs. Given Majors' earlier casting, it was clear that his death in Loki at the hands of Sylvie would not be the last time the character would appear. Even in the post-credits scene, it was evident that a new, more powerful variant of the character would appear, as Loki returns to the TVA and discovers a statue of Kang wearing his iconic helmet.

Majors will appear as Kang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, set to hit theaters Feb. 17, 2025.
