How Quantumania Fared in Theaters

The Ant-Man threequel did not enjoy the same level of success as its predecessors, becoming the first post-pandemic MCU film to lose money at the box office. This is despite a strong opening weekend, earning $106 million domestically and $225 million worldwide. At the time of writing, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has earned $473 million globally against a budget of approximately $200 million.

Quantumania starred Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly as the titular heroes while Kathryn Newton played Scott's teenage daughter Cassie Lang, Michael Douglas reprised his role from the previous two films as ex-S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Hank Pym and Michelle Pfeiffer starred as Hank's wife, Janet van Dyne. The film suffered a major leak in the lead-up to its premiere, with its dialogue and plot points surfacing online through Reddit. Marvel threatened a lawsuit against the leaker(s) responsible, leading to the closure of the subreddit which housed the confidential material.

Ant-Man and the Wasp's Legacy

The latest Ant-Man film also featured the big-screen debut of supervillain Kang the Conqueror, played by Jonathan Majors, who was introduced to the MCU in Disney+'s Loki. Kang was cited by many fans and critics as Quantumania's saving grace as Majors' performance won him several plaudits, with his menacing character set to become a central figure throughout Phases 5 and 6, including the next two Avengers films.

There were talks within Marvel about possibly developing Ant-Man 4, with producer Stephen Broussard revealing such conversation took place between himself, Reed and studio president Kevin Feige. However, no official announcements have been made by either Marvel Studios or Disney concerning Ant-Man going forward.
