WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Annihilation: Scourge- Beta Ray Bill, by Michael Moreci, Alberto Alburquerque, Jay David Ramos and VC's Joe Sabino, on sale now.

Even in a world full of gods and superheroes, Beta Ray Bill is pretty weird. While the hammer of Thor is usually wielded by the Asgardian God of Thunder or Jane Foster, Bill is an alien space horse who clashed with Thor's traditionally Norse trappings long before Thor: Ragnarok found success with a similar formula. While creator Walter Simonson gave Bill that appearance to make audiences unsure if he was a hero or a villain, Bill has proven himself to be one of Marvel's most noble cosmic heroes time and again, and he's even been discussed as a potential player in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

And in this Annihilation: Scourge tie-in, the noble wielder of Stormbreaker and the Lockjaw, the Inhumans' teleporting dog, arrive on the planet Gyrax, where they encounter a twisted version of Doctor Strange from the Cancerverse.

Throughout Annihilation: Scourge, the forces of the twisted, undying Cancerverse have invaded the Negative Zone, and now they've got their sights set on the main Marvel Universe. As if that wasn't already threatening enough, the Cancerverse's forces are made up of corrupted versions of Marvel's heroes from that dark dimension.

While this isn't the Doctor Strange that Marvel fans are familiar with from comics or the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he's just as formidable as those MAsters of the Mystic Arts in battle. As soon as he lands in the Marvel Universe, Strange begins turning Graxians into Cancerverse monsters. As Bill and Lockjaw attempt to make their way past the monsters, the sorcerer summons the Wrath of the Vault of Argento. Lockjaw leaps in front of the blast, seemingly sacrificing himself to shield Bill from the attack.

In an act of his rage and grief for his friend, Bill smashes Strange into pieces using Stormbreaker, his enchanted Asgardian hammer.

Even in his corrupted form, Strange is still one of Marvel's most formidable heroes, and Bill's ability to obliterate him is one of his most impressive feats. As if that wasn't enough, Bill also uses Stormbreaker, that hammer that gives him Asgardian abilities, to send the leader of the Cancerverse's forces, the Sentry, back through the rift. Since the Sentry could reasonably be called Marvel's most powerful Avenger, that's just as impressive for Bill.

When Stormbreaker seems lost in that dimension, Lockjaw makes his miraculous return and teleports  Bill to the Negative Zone where he can retrieve his hammer. With Bill in a prime position to vanquish the Sentry, it seems almost certain that he'll be part of the valiant final struggle against the former hero and the Cancerverse forces that he commands.
