CBR has an exclusive new clip from Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches, which deals with the many guises of the Devil, and more importantly, how to resist him.

The clip is taken from the next episode of the dark fantasy series, which hits AMC+ on Sunday. It begins with Alexandra Daddario's Rowan Fielding having a tense conversation with her Aunt Carlotta, who claims that the Devil came to her when she was a mere eight years old "and offered himself." Carlotta says that she was able to reject him thanks to her familiarity with the Scripture, which leads Rowan to conclude, "So he can be rejected. There's a choice."

Carlotta goes on to draw a difference between Rowan and the tragic Deirdre Mayfair, saying, "Deirdre wasn't as strong. But I'm sure you are." The two women are then interrupted by a barrage of incongruously exuberant party guests, led by Cortland Mayfair wielding a bottle of champagne.

Another Side of Anne Rice's Dark Fantasy World

Mayfair Witches features a cast of diverse women, examining issues of female power and the dangers and consequences that can come with wielding it. Rowan, the lead character, is a bright young neurosurgeon who discovers her family's connections to witchcraft and how her own fate is entangled with the supernatural forces of her hometown -- the Devil being just one danger in these forces.

Filmed in the atmospheric city of New Orleans, the series is based on author Anne Rice's books Lives of the Mayfair Witches and takes place in the same universe as her Interview With the Vampire, although it focuses on aspects of magic and horror outside of her famed vampire characters. Although Interview With the Vampire is overall a better-known property and its TV adaptation set a record with the number of viewers for its first episode on the streamer AMC+, the Mayfair Witches spinoff has seen great success since its Jan. 8 premiere, breaking the previously set record by attracting even more viewers with its debut episode than Interview With the Vampire.

Rowan's journey of discovery about herself, her heritage, and her family continues through an eight-episode first season. Created by Esta Spalding and Michelle Ashford, Mayfair Witches premieres new episodes Sundays on AMC, preceded by streaming debuts three days earlier on AMC+.
