In/Spectre is a supernatural and mystery light novel written by Kyo Shirodaira and illustrated by Hiro Kiyohara and Chasiba Katase. While the premiere of the anime adaption on January 11, 2020, this anime garnered fans for its witty dialogue and characters.

Natsume's Book of Friends is a supernatural manga written and illustrated by Yuki Midorikawa. Takashi Natsume has the ability to see spirits, which he inherited from his deceased grandmother.

This was not the only thing he inherited, however, as he gained his grandmother's "Book of Friends" which allows him to command spirits. Takashi decides to gain as many spirit friends as he can and collect them in his Book of Friends.

9 The Ancient Magus' Bride

Chise & Elias

The Ancient Magus' Bride is a dark fantasy manga written and illustrated by Kore Yamazaki. Chise Hatori is an orphan who decided to sell herself on the black market and was bought by Elias Ainsworth to become his apprentice as well as his bride.

Because Chise can see supernatural things, she was deemed as creepy and shunned by her remaining family, making her do this drastic measure. However, her life becomes better than she thought as she begins practicing magic and learning more about herself and the fate that awaits her.

8 Boogiepop Never Laughs

Boogiepop Never Laughs is a psychological horror manga written by Kouhei Kadono and illustrated by Kouji Ogata. The Boogipop Series is a hard anime to describe, as the episodes are all out of order and nothing clicks together unless you watch it this way.

Boogipop Never Laughs focuses on different characters who have a short involvement in a specific instance and even show happenings twice from a different perspective. Because of this, it may be hard to watch, but worth the effort.

7 Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun

Toilet-bound Hanako-kun is a supernatural manga written and illustrated by Iro Aida. The plot surrounds the Seven Mysteries of Kamome Academy with Nene Yashiro meeting the seventh, "Hanako-san of the Toilet." Hanako turns out to be a boy to Nene's surprise, but despite this, she asks him to grant her wish of finding love.

Despite her wish not being granted and her turning into a fish whenever she touches water, Nene ends up becoming Hanako's assistant and befriending him, along with Kou Minamoto.

6 Charlotte

Charlotte is an original anime comedy-drama produced by P.A. Works and Aniplex. The original story was written by acclaimed writer Jun Maeda who is the co-founder of the visual novel brand Key who wrote scenarios for Clannad and Angel Beats!

The story revolves around a group of teenagers who gain superhuman abilities when they reach puberty. When Yuu Otosaka awakens the ability to steal another person's ability by possessing them, he is forced to join the student council by freshman Nao Tomori.

5 Hyouka

Hyouka is the first volume of the Classic Literature Club novel series written by Honobu Yonezawa. Houtarou Oreki signs up for the Classic Literature Club when his sister urges him to do so, but it turned out to be way more difficult than he thought.

Together with the other members of the Classic Literature Club including Eru Chitanda, a girl who cannot help but be curious, they solve mysteries without many clues.

4 Blast Of Tempest

Blast of Tempest is a dark fantasy manga written by Kyo Shirodaira and illustrated by Arihide Sano and Ren Saizaki. After Mahiro Fuwa's younger step-sister Aika Fuwa is mysteriously murdered along with his parents, he decides to search for the person responsible.

Unbeknownst to Mahiro, Yoshino Takigawa, his best friend, was also the longtime girlfriend of Aiwa. Despite the secrets between them, they both try and unearth the truth behind the mysteries thrown their way.

3 Gosick

 

Gosick is a detective and romance light novel written by Kazuki Sakuraba and illustrated by Hinata Takeda. The story takes place in the year 1924 and focuses on Kazuya Kujo, the youngest son of a soldier who becomes the pupil of a young girl named Victorique de Blois.

They solve mysteries and various crimes together, albeit all of the credit goes to Victorique's half-brother to hide her connections. The story also features a romance between the two leads that progresses slowly.

2 Beyond The Boundary

Beyond the Boundary is a dark fantasy light novel written by Nagomu Torii and illustrated by Tomoyo Kamoi. The story features a world where supernatural creatures called Dreamshade appear and can only be seen by people who have the power to see them.

Akihito Kanbara is an immortal half-Dreamshade who can heal from any wound, while Mirai Kuriyama has the unique ability to manipulate blood.

1 Bakemonogatari

Bakemonogatari, the first in the Monogatari series of novels, is a paranormal light novel written by Nisio Isin and illustrated by Vofan. The Monogatari series tells tales of various apparitions who manifest in a particular group of teenagers and take advantage of their weaknesses.

The focus changes depending on what story it is trying to tell. Still, the main character is mostly Araragi Koyomi, with the other characters making various cameos and appearances when needed.
