Students in anime are fortunate that they don't attend school in the real world. Their lives may be filled with danger, peril, and hijinks but they somehow manage to maintain a respectable grade-point average. Worst case scenario, they can boost their grades back up with a make-up test or extra credit.

With so many series starring high school students, there is an abundance of slackers, troublemakers, and procrastinators to choose from. Among the various choices, these 10 anime students wouldn't succeed in a real school.

10 Yoshiko Hanabatake Is Absolutely Hopeless

Yoshiko Hanabatake from Aho Girl isn't on this list because of her lack of intelligence or for her eccentric personality. She can be irritating and might get in trouble for pestering her classmates and teachers but could be forgiven.

The reason she is on this list is that she has the maturity of a kindergartener and the drive of a banana slug. Yoshiko could be forgiven if she placed as much effort into her schoolwork as she does frustrate her childhood "friend," but she doesn't. How she managed to pass the first grade is a total mystery.

9 Katsuki Bakugo Has A Short Fuse

Katsuki Bakugo Has A Short Fuse

Despite his aggressive behavior, Katsuki Bakugo is a surprisingly adept and learned student that is usually at the top of his classes. He has the potential to go far but the one thing that would impair him is that pesky temper of his.

U.A. may be more lenient toward Bakugo's violent tendencies but that's because everyone has Quirks and has a budget most schools dream of having. It doesn't matter how powerful or brilliant Bakugo is, no school would allow him to start fights and blow up classrooms. Especially since he would likely give any school he goes to a bad name.

8 Atsuko "Akko" Kagari Is A Rule-Breaker

As much as people love a good underdog story, Atsuko "Akko" Kagari from Little Witch Academia isn't exactly a model student. Akko is constantly breaking the rules by sneaking out and toying with dangerous spells and potions with her friends.

In a real school, detention would be the least of her concerns if she broke curfew or practiced chemistry with hazardous chemicals. It also doesn't help that she is constantly seen having trouble studying material that is alien to her. Maybe if she has a good tutor or teacher she could pass but that seems unlikely.

7 Toshinari Seki Is An Easily-Distracted Slacker

Don't worry about not knowing who Toshinari Seki from Tonori No Seki-Kun: The Master of Killing Time is. His ability to get away with all sorts of shenanigans during class without anyone noticing is practically his superpower. Included but not limited to knitting a sweater, driving an RC car, making sand sculptures, and petting a cat he snuck in.

Even by some incredulous chance, he does manage to get away with slacking off, it's no way he'd learn enough to complete his homework or pass tests. It's only a matter of time before he gets caught and punished.

6 Ranko Ookami Can't Suppress Her Animal Instincts

There's a reason that a school was made for animals such as Ranko Ookami and that's because she would never make it far in a normal school. Don't be fooled by her appearances, Ranko is a wolf and does not attempt to hide it. With her one-track mind, it's unlikely she has the attention span needed to focus in class or complete assignments.

Not to mention she is guaranteed to get in trouble the first time she pounces someone she likes and licks their mouth. The faculty better have animal control on speed dial for when Ranko's big sister finds out her sister was kicked out.

5 Haru Nanase Loves Swimming Too Much

All athletes need to have passion for their sport to incentivize them into giving their best. Haruka Nanase from Free! is an exception to that rule with his unusual obsession with being able to "swim free." It's good that he is dedicated to being the best swimmer he can be but he doesn't seem like the kind of student that puts that much effort into his other classes.

He's also gone to dangerous lengths to swim, even going so far as to sneak into another school's pool after hours and swim at night in the ocean. If he doesn't drown or fail his classes, he's bound to get in trouble for breaking and entering.

4 Ayame Kajou Can't Avoid the Law Forever

In Shimoneta, Ayame Kajou is capable of leading a double life as a model student at school and a provocative revolutionary. The real world isn't as strict as the one in her show but she's bound to challenge the rules of any school she attends.

On the off-chance that no one manages to figure out her secret identity, it's hard to believe that she would have time for homework and spreading indecent material to the student body. Either her grades will plummet or she will slip up, get caught, and expelled or arrested. That's what happens when she takes off her plot armor, though knowing Ayame, she won't mind taking it off.

3 Shinji Ikari Isn't Mentally Stable

Anyone who knows even the tiniest bit about Evangelion should know about its unfortunate protagonist, Shinji Ikari. The son of a brilliant but uncaring scientist who forces him to pilot a mech and fight city-destroying monstrosities.

And he's still in high school! It's no secret that Shinji is in desperate need of some therapy and isn't in a stable mental state where he could keep up with classwork. He's going to need more than three surrogate moms to make sure he doesn't snap from the pressure. Forget about the Angels, the biggest threat to Shinji would be school.

2 Ryuko Matoi Is A Delinquent

Ryuko Matoi's sole mission in Kill La Kill is to infiltrate Honnoji Academy and challenge Satsuki Kiryuin to learn the truth about her father's murder. While she is an incredibly skilled combatant capable of defeating the academy's top students, she puts little to no effort into her studies.

No one can deny that she has plenty of street smarts but when was the last time she was seen studying for an exam or doing homework? That's assuming she can get through an average school day without starting a fight with anyone that annoys her. Hard to tell if she would get along with Bakugo or not.

1 Akihisa Yoshii Is A Genuine Fool

The grading system at Fumizuki Academy is unquestionably broken but if anyone deserved to be in Class F, it would be Akihisa Yoshii. Students and teachers alike agree that he is a moron that shows no motivation to better himself or study.

Unlike in anime, real schools don't use elaborate battle systems and Akihisa can't rely on his classmates to boost his grade unless it is a group project. He's likely to get kicked out either by tanking his grade by the end of the first semester or making an inappropriate comment about his classmates. He may have a good heart, but it's not enough to compensate for his lack of smarts and tact.
