The year just started and already the anime market is booming with a lot of news about new titles on the horizon. It feels like one day into the new year anime fans around the world were slapped in the face with hype announcements and series they're not going to want to wait to sink time into.

Of course, the master of hype is the shonen genre, as it has tons of series - both continuous and new - slated for 2020. This list is for those who are looking for what they should have on their radar when it comes to the world of shonen this year.

While the focus will mainly be on series/seasons debuting in 2020, some ongoing anime will also be considered.

10 INFINITE DENDROGRAM

For fans of the very popular Sword Art Online or any other isekai series for that matter, the currently airing new anime Infinite Dendrogram might be worth checking out. It began airing in January and, much like Sword Art Online, was adapted from a light novel.

The plot follows a new Virtual MMORPG called Infinite Dendrogram. Two brothers and their partner enter this virtual reality that promises an experience to stimulate all five senses and infinite possibilities. But what will they find during this adventure of a world that promises such things?

9 MY HERO ACADEMIA: SEASON 4

While My Hero Academia is nothing new to anime fans at this point, this current season is worth noting. It has been offering more of what everyone fell in love with this now-iconic series.

Season four begins right where things left off in the third. Deku just passed his Provisional Hero License exam and is now looking for an internship with a real professional hero agency. Luckily his mentor, All-Might, has his back and has hooked him up with a spot under his old sidekick, Sir Nighteye. This leads him to discover a crime syndicate, putting him in a position to team up with Mirio to put a stop to it.

8 AHIRU NO SORA

Ahiru No Sora is looking like it's going to be the next big sports series in the world of shonen anime, following behind the likes of Kuroko no Basket and Slam Dunk. Being adapted from an already successful manga, the anime will most likely follow right in its footsteps.

This anime is about Sora Kurumatani, a member of a basketball team that lacks something some would deem necessary for the sport, height. However, Sora doesn't let this deter him, as he puts his all on the court and joins the punk basketball team of his high school with a goal to turn these punks into a real team.

7 ATTACK ON TITAN: FINAL SEASON

How could anyone not be excited to finally witness the finale of this amazing series? Attack on Titan has been a must-watch anime for seven years now and it's time for it to end. This series never wavers in the quality department and, after all the twists and turns that the anime has put viewers through, skipping out on the ending is not an option.

There is just about no way to preview the upcoming season without spoiling some amazing things. Anyone who wishes to join the Attack on Train train now, there should be enough time to catch up on this masterpiece before the final season airs.

6 PROMISED NEVERLAND: SEASON 2

The Promised Neverland was the big horror shonen anime of the last year and that might just be the case for 2020 as well. This anime featuring a group of kids escaping a prison of lies is getting a big continuation in the form of a new season that will be a must-watch for those that enjoyed its first cour.

This is another anime that works best when someone goes in blind, but just know that the action should pick up big time in the upcoming season. Not to mention there's a big villain to look forward to as well!

5 THE QUINTESSENTIAL QUINTUPLETS: SEASON 2

For those who went into the first season of The Quintessential Quintuplets expecting more, then definitely stick around for season two. This anime is about the genius recluse Fuutarou Uesug's life getting intertwined with five sisters, each featuring a completely different personality.

Season one may have felt weak to some but season two really picks things up as the series and its characters get a lot more complex around this time in the manga. Especially for anyone interested in Nino.

4 DR STONE: STONE WARS

The shonen that everyone has fallen in love with is getting a continuation which will be sure to keep those that are already invested watching. This new season is being titled Dr. Stone: Stone Wars, suggesting this new installment will most likely cover the entire Stone Wars arc from the manga.

This is very good news for anime-only fans because it means that they won't be missing any big moments from the manga. Hopefully, Dr. Stone is able to cover the entire series whenever it finishes.

3 HAIKYUU!!: TO THE TOP

One series currently airing its newest installment is the very popular sports anime Haikyuu!!. Called Haikyuu!!: Rise to the Top, this new installment to this hit volleyball anime is its fourth season and things are only getting better.

From what's been seen of the season so far, it seems that Hinata is able to get back on the court and still has a lot to learn as well. Viewers can already feel the buildup for another big high-stakes match in the midst.

2 FIRE FORCE: SEASON 2

Fire Force was one of the most successful new anime of last year and it's coming back to give fans more of what they've been enjoying so much. Fans of Atsushi Ōkubo's previous works such as Soul Eater and B.Ichi should be catching up on Fire Force's season one to prepare for the next part of the series.

This anime is not only packed with some of the most fun action in recent shonen but also offers a great story, making it an all-around great time for any fan of shonen or anime in general.

1 DRAGON QUEST: DAI NO DAIBOUKEN

Finally, here is one of the most hyped new shonen coming soon. Dragon Quest: Dai No Daibouken is based on the 1989 manga Dragon Quest: The Adventures of Dai, a manga series that is based on the Japanese RPG videogame series Dragon Quest. This series already had an anime adaptation that ran in 1991, which the upcoming series is going to be an updated version of.

Dragon Quest is about the world of a swordsman called "The Hero" who brought peace to the world after defeating a powerful demon. However, this demon has returned and a wannabe hero named Dai has made it his mission to defeat this demon and return the world back to peace.
