A new decade is starting and the means the start of some new anime series. In addition to that, there are some familiar faces returning for the start of the decade. This list looks at some of the biggest anime series returning to our screens.

While there are some huge anime series getting sequels, including The Rising of the Shield Hero, Zombieland Saga: Revenge, and Kaguya-sama: Love is War, these seasons have not been confirmed for 2020. This list looks at only anime that have been confirmed.

10 DanMachi: Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? – July 2020

Kicking off the list is the third season of DanMachi: Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon. The fantasy-adventure anime finished airing its second season recently, during the summer 2019 season.

J.C. Staff is continuing to adapt Bell Cranel on his quest to become the greatest adventurer. Bell has undergone many hardships in the Hestia Familia and is starting to gain the respect he deserves. DanMachi Third Season is projected to air during the summer 2020 season.

9 Haikyuu!! – January 2020 / July 2020

Haikyuu!! is set to air its fourth and fifth season in 2020 titled Haikyuu!!: To The Top during the winter 2020 season and Haikyuu!!: To The Top Second Season, during the summer 2020 season respectively.

Adapted by Production I.G, Haikyuu!!’s third season aired during the fall 2016 season. The sports-drama anime centers around volleyball. Hinata Shouyou has loved volleyball since a young age and has revived the volleyball club at his middle school. After being decimated in their first match Hinata swears he will become the best. Hinata must work harder than the average athlete given his short height.

8 Fruits Basket – 2020

A remake of the original Fruits Basket that was adapted during the summer 2001 season, Fruits Basket is getting a second season to its 2019 adaptation. Done by TMS Entertainment, Fruits Basket aired during the spring 2019 season.

The shoujo-drama anime follows Tohru Honda and her time at the Soma house. You can expect Tohru to interact with more of the Soma family as she continues to live with them. Fruits Basket isn’t confirmed for a specific season at this current time.

7 My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU – April 2020

Better known by its Japanese name, Oregairu, My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU is a slice of life rom-com series. The anime is set to go into its third season after its second season aired in spring 2015. Studio feel. will be adapting the upcoming season after taking over the series from studio Brain’s Base’s season one.

My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU follows Hachiman Hikigaya, a high school student with strong beliefs about the way people should act. When forced to join the Volunteer Service Club with Yukino Yukinoshita, Hachiman becomes involved with more than he can handle. Having to help other students, the narcissistic student is out of his comfort zone. My Teen Romantic comedy SNAFU is projected to air during the spring 2020 season.

6 That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime – 2020

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is a fantasy-isekai anime. As one of the better titles in the saturated genre, the anime received a second season after its popular adaptation during the fall 2018 season. Done by studio 8bit, the anime follows Satoru Mikami, a 37-year-old man who is reincarnated into a ball of slime.

As a slime, he can mimic anything. Satou becomes friends with the Storm Dragon Veldora. He promises to assist in breaking the seal in return for divine protection in the form of Rimuru Tempest. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime isn’t confirmed for a specific season at this time.

5 Dr. Stone – 2020

Currently continuing into this fall 2019 season, Dr. Stone is a shonen-adventure anime adapted by TMS Entertainment studio. As season one ends, the second season titled Dr. Stone: Stone Wars has been confirmed for 2020, but not a specific season at this time.

Dr. Stone follows Senkuu in a post-apocalyptic world where everyone has been turned to stone. It’s up to Senkuu and the power of science to restart civilization. However, it isn’t going to be as easy as he thinks.

4 The Promised Neverland – 2020

The Promised Neverland is a psychological-thriller series adapted by CloverWorks studio. The anime was one of the most talked-about for its season back in winter 2019. The anime follows a group of kids living at an orphanage under their “Mama” Isabelle.

At the orphanage, the kids are raised to become food for demons. Ray, Emma, and Norman work together to stop the orphanage from shipping kids off and try to fight for their freedom. The Promised Neverland hasn’t been confirmed for a specific season at this time.

3 Re:Zero: Starting Life in Another World – April 2020

One of White Fox’s many great adaptations, Re:Zero Starting Life in Another World is a fantasy-drama series following Subaru Natsuki. Subaru is propelled into a fantasy world where he has the power to travel back in time when he dies.

Subaru meets a plethora of characters at Emilia’s mansion. Emilia is a candidate to become the next ruler in the royal election but shares an aesthetic to the Witch of Envy. Re:Zero Second Season is projected to air during the spring 2020 season.

2 Evangelion: 3.0 + 1.0 – June 2020

One of the most anticipated anime films of all time, Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0, Rebuild of Evangelion is the fourth film in the Evangelion Rebuild series. The film will be the final film in the series and is a sequel of Evangelion: 3.0 released on November 17, 2012.

Done by Studio Khara, Evangelion is projected to be released in June 2020. To prepare for the upcoming film it is recommended to start with Neon Genesis Evangelion, followed by NGE: Death and Rebirth. Continue to the End of Evangelion and finish with the Evangelion Rebuild series.

1 Attack on Titan Final Season – October 2020

Rounding out the list is one of the largest anime of the new generation, Attack on Titan. The final series of Attack on Titan is projected to air during fall 2020. It’s been a long journey for Eren, Mikasa, and Armin; all the way back during the spring 2013 season.

The shonen-drama is set in a world where titans run wild outside the walls. After they break through the walls of humanity, chaos breaks out and it’s up to the Survey Corps to save humanity. After Eren’s mother is brutally eaten by a titan, Eren joins the Corps to fight for humanity.
