Usually, it's all about the journey, not the destination. However, if the destination ends up being a spectacular thrill ride in itself, then it can be well worth it no matter how bumpy the way there actually was. The same can go for a story too, sometimes in the same way that a bad ending can ruin everything that came before it, an amazing ending can also redeem the journey it took to get to it.

While there are a lot of great anime out there, not all of them can be spectacular all the way through and the right ending can make up for some missteps and maybe even prevent viewers from rage quitting that series altogether.

10 The Renton & Eureka Ship Sets Sail in Full After a Long Season of Conflict (Eureka Seven)

Renton and Eureka kiss, Eureka Seven

Eureka Seven is definitely a unique and stylized anime that tackles a lot of things that can be overly complex at times. Teen romance, surfing mechas, the horrors of war, and trippy yet interesting sci-fi concepts are all present here, though it can also be a hard anime to get into for some.

Still, the romance between Eureka and Renton is the heart of this story, and luckily sparks fly like never before for this relationship in the finale as the two finally share a kiss as they soar down to the planet below. The final scene might be a little on the ambiguous side, but watching the two finally be together after the universe tried to tear them apart is satisfying.

9 Anos & Company Kill Hatred Itself in One Bombastic Fight (Misfit of Demon King Academy)

Misfit of Demon King Academy

At first glance, The Misfit of Demon King Academy seems pretty easy to figure out with its overpowered and slightly egotistical protagonist in Anos Voldigoad, as he flexes his power and builds up his party of fellow students. Considering he smacks around the god of time itself in the fourth episode, all sense of tension does go out the window for this anime.

That might be enough of a "jumping the shark" moment for some to put this anime down early, but doing so has them miss out on a big bombastic finale. During the final episode, Anos and company all get a moment to shine, as they save the day and kill one man's hatred in physical form in an over-the-top fashion.

8 Yugi's Final Duel Against the Pharaoh Ends on a Bittersweet Note (Yu-Gi-Oh!)

Atem's goodbye in Yu-Gi-Oh!

As far as stories go, the original Yu-Gi-Oh! could be a little all over the place, especially in its later seasons. The formula of Yugi and friends taking on various card game-playing villains was starting to feel a little played out, but the final duel between Yugi and the Pharaoh is a must-see for the series.

Facing down the half of himself that had helped him through the bulk of the anime, Yugi actually does stand on his own and defeats the Pharaoh, proving just how far he's come. Things then get bittersweet as Pharaoh bids Yugi and the others farewell as his spirit finally passes on.

7 Subaru Finally Saves the Day for Real in Season 1's Finale (Re:Zero)

Subaru confesses to Emilia, Re:Zero

Re:Zero is admittedly not the easiest anime to watch, and some viewers found Subaru to be a bit hard to tolerate, especially after his falling out with Emilia, and Rem's rejection really stood out as a rage quit moment for some fans. Despite all that, season one's ending was a good payoff for what was built up.

After ending his final fight with Petelgeuse, Subaru races to save Emilia, managing to grab the explosives and get them far from her wagon before they go off. Subaru finally gets to enjoy a victory he obtained himself, and even confesses his feelings to Emilia. In the Director's Cut, there's even a huge cliffhanger for season two.

6 Sun Wukong Emerges in an Amazing Battle That's a Feast for the Eyes (The God of High School)

Jin Mori awakens as Sun Wukong in The God of High School.

While The God of High School was visually splendid with its incredibly well-animated fights, many felt like the pacing for this Webtoon adaptation was really rushed as story beats were heavily condensed. So it would be understandable if some found it hard to stick with it, but its final fight does deserve appreciation.

As Mori and friends fight a now god-like Taek, Mori's true identity as Sun Wukong emerges and he unleashes his own godly powers in a fight that's absolutely breathtaking. If nothing else, God of High School went out on a "bang."

5 After a Mostly Rushed Adaptation, It Ends On a Huge Twist (Persona 5 The Animation)

Akechi kills Joker, Persona 5 the Animation

There are good ways to adapt video games, though Persona 5 The Animation is not the best example. Across twenty-six episodes, the story of the Phantom Thieves ended up having huge pacing issues and some egregious animation errors. Those alone would be enough to make viewers and fans of the game rage quit there.

The final episode, at least before the specials, ends up having one of its biggest twists as Akechi shows his true colors and kills Ren instead of rescuing him. The scene is one of the anime's best, being actually well animated, paced, and appropriately gut-wrenching, and the viewer is left to linger on it as the credits roll. It's especially shocking for those who hadn't played the game first.

4 Despite the Stumbles, Ryuko & Senketsu Have an Epic Last Hurrah (Kill la Kill)

Ryuuko's final form

Despite its insane action, style, humor, and story-telling, Kill la Kill did have more than a couple of issues. The narrative has some plot holes, concepts were out there, and at times the anime can go a little too far and take itself a little too seriously for its own good. However, Studio Trigger's spirit of cranking things up to a ridiculous eleven shines through in this finale.

Ryuko and Senketsu obtain a new powerful form and have an epic battle with Ragyo in space that ends with Senketsu sacrificing himself to return Ryuko safely to Earth. This anime ends as it lived, holding nothing back.

3 Lelouch's Master Plan Reaches its Grand Finale (Code Geass)

Lelouch dies, Code Geass

Code Geass had a bit of a rough time in its second season, with some aspects of characters being slightly inconsistent and a couple of head-scratching moments (like when Lelouch controlled god, for example) and for some viewers, those things might've been too much. However, the kicker of Lelouch's final plan is rather something.

After essentially taking over the world, Suzaku disguised as Zero ends up executing his friend, and just as Lelouch planned, the world united against him starts to walk towards peace. It's an ending that makes it clear just how far Lelouch was willing to go for his goals, even if he had to die for them.

2 Universe 7's Victory During the Tournament of Power (Dragon Ball Super)

Goku and Frieza battle against Jiren in Dragon Ball Super.

Dragon Ball Super ended up being more than a little divisive amongst fans of Dragon Ball Z, given that so much time was devoted to movie plotlines, filler, and some sloppy animation among other things. However, the Tournament of Power arc does conclude with some stand-out moments.

After a huge battle with Jiren that forces Goku and Frieza to knock him out of the ring together, Android 17 wins the tournament and with his wish, saves all the other universes. On top of the explosive finish, it's also refreshing to see that someone besides Goku ended up saving the day in the end.

1 Ash Wins The Alolan Pokémon League, Despite a Different/Comedic Tone (Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon)

Ash finally wins a Pokémon league in Pokémon Sun & Moon.

After Ash lost the Kalos League, it seemed unlikely that he would ever really win one after so many years of trying. On top of that, the new, more comedic tone and direction the anime took in the Sun & Moon seasons, was a big turn-off to many long-time fans. But believe it or not, Ash's Alolan adventure ended in an unexpected triumph.

Ash actually wins the Alolan Pokémon League and finally becomes a champion, but it doesn't just end there as all of Ash's Alolan friends bid him a tear-jerking farewell as he leaves to begin his next adventure. An emotional end to cap off Ash's biggest victory.
