With the variety of anime available, it really should come as no surprise that occasionally they create opportunities for some truly great (or entertaining) pick-up lines. Some of those lines are used in the anime itself, while others are merely inspired by.
Regardless of their origin, there's something to be said about the ones included in this list below. They're so spot-on (or hilarious) that they might actually work – but only on an anime fan, of course. Anybody else would likely just be confused.
10 Are You A Trap Card?
“Are you a trap card? Because I've Fallen for you.” -Yu-Gi-Oh
The first on this list of plausible pickup lines comes from Yu-Gi-Oh. To be fair, there are plenty of opportunities thanks to this show, and this is only one example. There is something oddly endearing about this particular pickup line, perhaps because it's directly refreshing a franchise so many love?
As with basically every other pick up line in this list, it really only would work for the fans of Yu-Gi-Oh out there. Anybody else would be confused at best, and offended at worst.
9 Have You Mastered The Rasengan?
"Girl have you mastered the Rasengan? Because every time your hand touches me you make me dizzy." -Naruto
This pickup line is the first of several inspired by Naruto. Who would have thought that Naruto, who chased a girl for years with no luck, would have such effective pickup lines? Though this one does come with a huge caveat – don't use it on somebody that isn't a fan, and even then, the slightly raunchier nature might result in a punch rather than a success, so keep that in mind.
8 Call Me All Might
"Call me All Might cause I'm just looking to Texas Smash" -My Hero Academia
Speaking of pickup lines that should only be used on the fans (and even then with some careful forethought), here's a line from My Hero Academia. It's an obvious reference to All Might and one of his signature moves. Well, obvious to an anime fan, that is.
This is a line that could go over really well, and get somebody laughing – always a nice ice breaker. Or it could land the user in a lot of hot water, so use this one with care.
7 Are You Gaara?
"Are you Gaara? Because love is written all over your face." -Naruto
Here's another fun one from Naruto. Well, inspired by Naruto, that is. Gaara is an iconic character, and while the symbol on his forehead is only part of it, it's still something worth noting. It can also be easily turned around into something fun such as this.
This is totally a line that will go over the heads of anybody that hasn't seen (or read) Naruto though, so use it with caution.
6 Hold My Hand
"Hold my hand. I like keeping my treasure close." -One Piece
This line from One Piece is actually pretty sweet, no matter how you look at it. It's basically the only pickup line on this entire list that might work on somebody that isn't a fan of anime. Regardless of if they get the reference or not, this is a line that just might help you out in the world of dating.
5 Did Buu Attack You?
"Did Buu attack you? Because you're as sweet as candy" -Dragon Ball
Not all pickup lines have to be sappy, sometimes they can be silly. Take this one that's inspired by Dragon Ball. Any fan of the series will probably laugh if a line like this was used on them – but that might not be a bad thing. After all, a conversation has officially been started. Baby steps.
4 No Need For Crying
“No need for crying anymore, baby. I'll personally ensure you get home safe. Unless you'd rather stay with me.” -Space Dandy
Aww. Okay, make that two lines on this list that might work for people outside of the fandom, though it really does only apply under certain circumstances. This is a line from Space Dandy, and it is shockingly well done – especially out of context.
An anime fan would probably appreciate this line more than most, but it's still a solid one all around. Especially if you have the charm and sincerity to back it up (totally justifiable to debate that about the actual character who spoke this line).
3 I Don't Need To Use Byakugan
"I don't need to use Byakugan to see into your heart." -Naruto
Here's another line inspired by Naruto, but to be fair, it's another great one. Though once again, it really would be quite confusing to anybody outside of the fandom. At least it would help to single out those with common interests?
Or it could be a line that brings a new fan to the series, and wouldn't that be wonderful?
2 Infinite Tsukuyomi
"Infinite Tsukuyomi must have activated because you are everything I've dreamed of." -Naruto
This is the last Naruto pickup line – but again, there have been some really good ones inspired by the series! This final one actually stems from the end of the series itself, where Infinite Tsykuomi was introduced.
Basically, it would put everyone in a permanent slumber, where everything would be perfect. In theory, at least. So this line has a slightly creepy edge, all while being very sweet. Mostly.
1 Equivalent Exchange
“Equivalent exchange. I'll give you half of my life, so give me half of yours!” -Fullmetal Alchemist, Brotherhood
Time to finish off this list with a line from Fullmetal Alchemist, Brotherhood. This line is basically perfection, both in the series and to be used on a fan of said series. It references a common phrase from the series (and from Fullmetal Alchemist), and is truly very touching. Especially for fans of that particular ship! That's one of the many reasons why this pickup line could potentially work on an anime fan.
