Often, anime series are praised within the community for their skill at foreshadowing upcoming plot points in a subtle way. Topped with exciting music and stunning visuals, mild spoilers can make for a memorable and hype-starting introduction to a show.

However, some series forget the "subtle" and "mild" parts of foreshadowing entirely and just present exactly what is going to happen in the series within the first minute and a half of their air time. This often creates a lot of frustration within the fanbase, both for manga enthusiasts looking for a perfect adaptation and for anime-only watchers who just had their series ruined for them. The result is many iconic cult moments of frustration with the anime industry for making what is coming up so obvious.

10 Death Gun's Identity In Sword Art Online, Season 2

Sword Art Online Death Gun

Many openings use subtle cuts and framing to allude to plot twists in their series. Sword Art Online's third opening, however, takes this to a whole new level by cutting directly between a main character and his secret evil identity. A scene of Kyouji smiling is lit on fire and replaced by a visual of Death Gun, making it obvious that he is the story's villain.

This struck fans as an odd choice given that the unveiling of Death Gun's identity was a huge part of the series' tension. Also, Kirito is shown looking at Death Gun, while being surrounded by three shadowy figures laughing. This makes it pretty easy to guess that Death Gun is actually three people pretending to be one and that those three people were connected to Laughing Coffin.

9 All The Characters' Powers In Fairy Tail

Fairy Tail Cast

Fairy Tail has a long-running tradition of showing most fights and major plot points within the openings of the show. Most notable is how the first opening shows Lucy and all of her teammates, as well as making their powers obvious.

Natsu's fire and Grey's ice are shown conflicting with each other, and most major characters are shown in battle. An even bigger giveaway is Virgo and Erza's super armor being shown in her fight with Natsu at the end of the opening.

8 The Murderer's Identity In Erased

Erased Child Kayo asleep on Child Sotaru's Shoulder

Erased's main plotline revolves around unmasking and apprehending a child kidnapper and murderer. It may come as a surprise, then, that the killer's identity is shown in the opening to the show. An unseen character fires a bullet at the protagonist as he runs away, and the killer's reflection can be seen for a split second in the shattered glasses shooting across the screen.

It is hard to catch, but anyone skillful (or unfortunate) enough to pause at the right time can unmask the killer through only the opening.

7 The Kidnap Victims & Investigation Team In Persona 4: The Animation

Persona 4 Best Aged PS2 games

Persona 4's plot revolves around a series of kidnappings. Many of the kidnapping victims are featured in the openings, giving away their identities. Also, the entire investigation team is shown, making it clear who will join the group as the series progresses.

Another spoiler comes in the form of Naoto, a character whose framing within the series is created to make the audience question whether she is on the protagonists' side or not. This is a major part of the plot both in the series and in the game, but one look at her in the opening, framed alongside all the rest of the investigation team, makes it obvious that she is a good guy throughout the show.

6 Who Gets Transformed In Shiki

Megumi Shimizu Kyuuketsuki Hair from Shiki

Shiki is a vampire apocalypse anime where a large part of the action consists of wondering who will survive the threat of vampires (called "Shiki") and who will be turned into the undead. The first opening makes it fairly obvious who will survive and who won't make it.

The camera zooms in on several of the main characters and shows some of them get their figures blown away by the wind, leaving only skeletons behind. It isn't a hard jump to make to conclude that the characters who turn into skeletons are also the ones who will turn into Shiki.

5 Yuki's Transition in Vampire Knight

Vampire Knight's main character is a human girl named Yuki. She turns into a vampire late in the series. However, this was heavily spoiled by the first opening. In this credit sequence, she is shown running desperately towards a vial of liquid.

The liquid turns red, implying blood, and she takes it and drinks it, making it easy to guess that she will eventually become a blood-drinking creature. The idea that she will become a vampire is further supported by the first ending, where she is shown sitting blankly on the floor with red glowing eyes.

4 All The Squads in Bleach

Ichigo Kurosaki

Bleach has earned a reputation for being especially bad with spoilers in its openings. The third opening of the series was the major culprit of this, as it shows all thirteen of the squads one by one, with all their members, with no exception. This is a problem spoiler-wise because, for some of the characters, their association with their squads was a secret.

Also, the audience was not sure if one of the characters, Aizen, was still alive, but that question was answered by the opening, which shows his hair and his haori for a brief period of about three seconds.

3 In Black Clover, it was fairly obvious what Noelle was going to become

Asta wielding a deadly sword while glowing red

Black Clover, like many shonen anime, features most of its major villains and plot points within its openings. However, the opening that was the most criticized for its spoilers was opening thirteen. Rather than alluding to certain plot points, this opening rips scenes directly from the manga, for example, a shot of Zenon fighting Yuno.

Noelle's mermaid form was also a large spoiler included in the opening. It was blurred, and her full form in detail was only revealed in the episode, but it was still fairly obvious what Noelle was going to become.

2 Edward's Gate-Breaking In Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

The Elric Brothers Fight Isaac In Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

While it may be harder for someone who has never seen the series to connect the dots, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood quite clearly lays out the ending of the show within the fourth opening's last shots.

First, the brothers are shown in the middle of a large transmutation circle, seemingly performing alchemy. Then a Gate Of Truth appears and breaks into pieces. These two scenes together imply the ending, where Edward uses alchemy and ends up sacrificing his Gate in exchange for Alphonse's body back.

1 Nico Robin Joining The Crew In One Piece

Robin in Wano from One Piece

Nico Robin was first introduced to the One Piece roster as a villain. She was the secondary antagonist of the Arabasta arc, until she snuck aboard the ship and asked to become part of the Straw Hat crew. However, the third opening shows her happily smiling alongside the rest of her now-crewmates, and this opening started airing at the start of episodes before her time as a villain on screen was over.

It is a popular complaint within the fanbase that the opening ruins the twist at the end of the Arbasta arc.
