Tokyo Revengers is one of the most popular newer anime adaptations, following the story of unlucky Takemichi Hanagaki. After finding out about the death of his former girlfriend, Hinata Tachibana, at the hands of the Tokyo Manji Gang, Takemichi is pushed off a train platform and believes he’s about to die.

The story focuses on Shōtarō Kaneda, the leader of the Capsules biker gang, and his friend since their school days, Tetsuo Shima. After a motorcycle accident, Tetsuo develops telekinesis. He's taken to a secret government facility where they discover that his abilities are linked to the event that destroyed Tokyo in 1988. The anime movie was a hit and is generally considered to have launched the second wave of anime.

Baccano! is set in the United States in the 1930s, near the end of the Prohibition era. Mafia gangsters are mixed up with alchemists, and an elixir of immortality is created that that causes a Mafia war between the Gandor and Runorata families. The events take place from 1930 to 1932, but the timeline of the anime isn't linear. The cast of characters includes a psychopathic assassin and hijackers, and much of the action takes place on a transcontinental train called the Flying Pussyfoot.
