Update July 27th, 2020 by Louis Kemner: Now that the second season of Fire Force is underway, it is time to figure out which other action/adventure anime series out there are in a similar vein. One good anime series can easily lead to another, and there's always one more hit title to try out. So, when it comes to Fire Force, what ought to come next? Here are five more anime series to try out.

13 D.Gray-Man

In many ways, Fire Force fits the unofficial mold of "monster hunter" anime, where the lead characters use special skills and weapons to find and slay beasts of all kinds, whether actual monsters, demons, spirits or robots. D-Gray-Man is certainly like that, with all kinds of cool fantasy action scenes in its many episodes.

The hero is Allen Walker, who lives in a gothic late-1800s world where Akuma (the monsters) emerge from people without warning, and the wicked Millennium Earl and his Noah family are trying to remake the world in their image. It's up to Allen and the other exorcists to stop them.

12 Bleach

A classic shonen title, Tite Kubo's Bleach is also a "monster hunter" anime where gothic vibes are replaced with spirits and the undead. High school student Ichigo Kurosaki meets a Soul Reaper named Rukia Kuchiki, and his powers are awakened at last.

Ichigo and his allies fight to take down all kinds of evil, from hungry hollows to the cruel laws of the Soul Society to Sosuke Aizen and his arrancar army. The manga also introduces the Wandenreich, the empire of the archer Quincy.

11 InuYasha

inuyasha, kagome, and kikyo

This series' manga dates back to 1996 and was publicized for quite some time, meaning there's a lot of adventure to be had. This is yet another "monster hunter" anime, set in 1500s Japan. Modern high school student Kagome Higurashi falls into an enchanted well and finds herself in the past.

This story has some soft isekai elements to it, and Kagome is a ray of hope in a war-torn, demon-haunted Japan of days gone by. She, InuYasha and other heroes form a band to fight back against the villainous Naraku, and it'll take all they've got to vanquish him.

10 Goblin Slayer

Onna and the Goblin Slayer

This is one of the more R-rated titles on this list. So far, Goblin Slayer has just one season, but it's an action-packed story that features all kinds of cool fight scenes in its brisk 12-episode span.

As per the title, the hero is a tight-lipped knight who goes by Goblin Slayer, and goblins are the only enemies he'll fight (he's got a vengeful streak against them). But he doesn't have to be alone any longer, since a priestess, archer, and more soon join him to form a proper party.

9 Tokyo Ghoul

tokyo ghoul

Here's a seinen series for Fire Force fans who want something a little more intense to watch. In this grim world, flesh-eating ghouls stalk the night and prey on hapless humans, and they have magic powers known as kagune (taking the form of fantasy-style appendages). The hero is the half-ghoul Ken Kaneki.

Fighting ghouls on the streets and protecting the innocent from them is rather like Shinra and co. fighting the Infernals, but totally R-rated. There's also a moral conflict since there are some relatively innocent ghouls who are hunted right alongside their more vicious kin.
