If you love Attack on Titan, then chances are that you are a fan of dark fantasy action anime. Attack on Titan has a lot going on from its mysteries to its crazy fights scenes and brutal deaths. Since the third season finale, fans have to wait a long time for the thrilling story to continue (unless you read the manga).
So what to watch while waiting for more Attack on Titan? Don't worry! There are lots of other dark action fantasy anime out there. Here are ten that you will probably love if you liked Attack on Titan.
10 Kabaneri Of The Iron Fortress
According to fans, Kabaneri Of The Iron Fortress is the obvious choice for those who love Attack on Titan. The story takes place during the industrial revolution, except a virus is killing people. Those that are infected become monsters and humanity has very few ways to kill them. Like Attack on Titan, the story takes place in a fortress that was built to protect humanity from these monsters. Another major similarity is that the monsters break into the fortress at the beginning of the story. The main character, like Eren, also becomes a sort of monster-human hybrid.
The anime has 12 episodes and ran in 2016.
9 God Eater
This post-apocalyptic anime ran from 2015 to 2016 with 13 episodes. It takes place in the year 2071 in a nation called the New Asian union. An organization called Fenrir helps protect people from monsters called "Aragami" and they use special weapons called "God Arcs."
The show is actually based on a video game of the same name that can be played on PlayStation 4, PSP, and Windows. The game was released in Japan in 2011. So if you like this show and want more, there is also the game.
8 Tokyo Ghoul
Like Eren, the protagonist of Tokyo Ghoul is a monster-human hybrid. Ghouls, unlike titans, look like every day people but have to survive on eating human flesh. They also have a lot of super-human-like powers and can go berserk if they get too hungry or excited. The protagonist, Kaneki, becomes half ghoul due to a surgery where a ghoul's organs were donated to his body. So the story follows him around learning how to live with his new body.
It is highly likely that you know this show already, as it was majorly popular to the point that it got live-action and video game adaptations.
7 Hellsing Ultimate
This dark fantasy anime is only ten episodes long but is known as one of if not the best vampire anime out there. The plot focuses on the organization, Hellsing, that dedicates itself to killing supernatural forces that pray on humanity. The head of the organization is a powerful woman who commands an army. However, her greatest weapon is a vampire named Alucard (yes, that is "Dracula" spelled backwards).
The audience surrogate is Alucard's new vampire servant, Seras Victoria, who used to be a cop until he saved her life by making her a vampire.
6 Seraph Of The End
The characters may look a little gentle and fluffy, but do not let that make you think this show doesn't have dark themes and good action. The plot takes place in post-apocalyptic world that killed all adults and left only children under the age of 13 alive. To make matters worse, vampires and other monsters claim the earth. Humans have to donate blood to these creatures as a trade for protection.
The story followed two orphan friends. One sacrifices his life to vampires so that the other may live. The one that lives seeks out revenge and wants to destroy all vampires. However, it turns out his friend is still alive and is a vampire.
Castlevania is one of Netflix's best animated gems. While it is based off of the famous video game series, you do not have to have played the games to understand the show. It has two seasons so far and fans are crossing their fingers for more.
Like some other suggestions on this list, this show as a lot of dark monsters and vampires. Dracula is the main villain, and he is arguably the best Dracula adaptation out there. Along with fantastic action sequences is humor, tragedy, and very well-written characters.
4 Elfen Lied
Don't let the screenshots of the cute pink-haired girl fool you. Her powers could likely rip a titan from Attack on Titan in half.
This anime focuses on a fantasy race called "Diclonius." They resemble humans except they have little horns. They are considered as monsters due to invisible arms that they control. They can both grasp and go through solid objects, which basically allows them to tear anything up. They are especially known to be violent towards humans. The main character is Lucy, a Diclonius who is trapped in an experimental facility. During an escape, she gets amnesia.
This dark fantasy adventure is set on a medieval island where humans are attack by humanoid shape-shifting creatures that eat them. There is an organization of women that are part monster and part human who kill the monsters for a fee. They are known for their claymore swords and silver eyes. The island has 47 districts with a claymore warrior assigned to each of them.
The anime is 26 episodes long and adapts to the first 11 volumes of the manga.
This dark fantasy horror series is a major favorite among those who like dark stories. The anime and films focus on mostly early arcs and the manga is still going. The story follows a mercenary group called Band of the Hawk and the main character, Guts. Their leader, Griffith becomes a close friend of Guts but still remains pretty distant and mysterious.
We won't spoil the show, but there is some major horror scenes and betrayal in this story. Fans have been waiting to see how it ends for a very long time but like Attack on Titan, it is well worth the wait.
1 Goblin Slayer

An anime film called Goblin Slayer: Goblin's Crown is actually planned for coming out in 2020.
